I'm running a Dhampir Thief, currently lvl 5 on the next rest but I'm not sure where to take her next (if she survives).
I'd really like to explore the idea of her vampiric element growing as well as her rogue abilities, plus expand utility in and out of combat. I've got a few ideas but I'm not sure if they would spread her too thin. Not interested in being super-optimised (I mean, I'm playing a Thief to start with) but don't want to be useless.
At level 4 I took +2 dex semi-reluctantly. I really wanted Mobile, but going all the way to lvl 8 with dex 16 just didn't seem like a good idea. Lvl 8 will be Mobile though. I am already having fun scampering along walls, doing it with 45 speed will be better, plus she's melee focused, so not having to burn a bonus action to retreat will be good (bonus dash means her threat range from safety is much higher). So we have the speedy bit, the scuttling on the ceiling and striking out of nowhere before disappearing. All very Nosferatu. This brings us to lvl10 and the three feats beyond where we need to a) Get her to dex 20, b) make her more vampirey, c) increase utility and d) make her not shit.
Fey/Shadow Touched are obvious choices, turning into mist, charming people, invisibility, etc etc. Skill Expert is also reaching out to me. It will more more of a question of what am I not proficient in. Piercer is also there, but I get the feeling I'd only be taking it to hit dex 20, rather than because it's a good feat. Shame the other half feats for dex are even more 'meh'.
The four feats above would get me dex 20, wis 16, four spells, 5 expertise skills and a tiny bit more dmg. Very good for infiltrating/stealing, suitably vampiric. Problem is that there would be none of the usual, more optimal stuff.
Alternatively: Fey touched, Skill expert, ASI (Dex/Wis) plus something like Sharpshooter, Lucky etc.
Or. Sod the wis/theming. +2 dex, Sharpshooter, Lucky and... Skulker?
My dhampir rogue is currently Phantom 10/Undead Warlock 2. The Warlock dip is mostly for RP/flavor and EI (Devil's sight and Mask). Basically, at level 9 when Trinkets came online, it awakened the vampire spirit in the character. This manifests in a closer connection with the vampire patron(ancestor in a tomb somewhere, waiting...). Now, she will bonus action Form of Dread, then attack from the shadows with the appearance of a full vampire +10 temp hp. On hit, fear. Really cool if your DM will let you use DEX for fanged bite. Then you can sneak from the shadows and eviscerate with your fangs. (I'd homebrew that the bonus from fanged bite only applies to base damage + prof bonus, not sneak.)
