So right off the bat you get Guidance (on a rogue is great), Two slots per long rest for: Bless (a good spell at any level, but it becomes difficult for higher level casters to justify, but as a dip you can always justify it) Healing word (bringing friends back in the fight is good) Detect magic (Do you need to find the magical loot fast, then detect it, if you have 10 minutes even better) Shield proficiency (depending on your build +2 AC is great, and with a magic shield that can be higher, and +1 shield is uncommon)
So despite these riches you want a subclass. (And the fact a higher wisdom works really great with rogue skills like perception/insight)
If you go shield you won't be using your offhand, and blade cantrips now are great. Go Arcana. I am not a big fan of the channel divinity and you could stop there. Do you have a cheap DM for magic items? Go Forge and grab a +1 weapon or armor. Do you want the best two levels of cleric? Go Twilight. On an Assassin the adv on initiative is worth it alone, but the 300 ft darkvision and martial weapon prof is also great. The channel divinity is great too. Knowledge is OK. I have played a dip into knowledge before. More skills/languages. Channel divinity gets you prof in any skill/tool for 10 minutes. When you get reliable talent that can be really powerful.
I don't think there is a bad choice. The things you get for just 1 level in cleric without the subclass is worth it. You lose a level towards your sneak. I am not sure how many levels you want to lose there, but it certainly is good.
Elfdope is pretty spot on. Cleric is so good, it's hard to get that wrong. I'd personally go arcana for a single level for blade cantrips, and if I get the chance to make opportunity attacks often, warcaster.

Any time an unfathomably powerful entity sweeps in and offers godlike rewards in return for just a few teensy favors, it’s a scam. Unless it’s me. I’d never lie to you, reader dearest.

I love the idea of dipping 1 level of cleric for flavor for a rogue. Just a ton of utility.
Im thinking I might make a character with a one level dip into arcana domain for the blade cantrips or the knowledge domain for even more expertise.
What do ya'll think is the best dip into cleric for a rogue?
