i'm making a kobold rouge, scout , and i want to multiclass for it but i'm not sure what to give him for another level. from what i know how he will play is a bit mroe upfront and battle oriented , but will still use long range wepon like a hand crossbow . but idk what to multiclass in any ideas?
I would suggest either battlemaster fighter or sword bard if you have a decent charisma. They both have extra attack *5th fighter,6th sword bard* which increase your damage + higher chance to proc your sneak attack. in both cases i would dip it until lvl 6
the BM fighter has 2 great manouver one of which especially great for rogue. Trip attack allows you knock your target Prone handy to give other melee fighter advantage on it and it lose half movement to get back up handy for kiting it, If you using it on your bow i would use on your last attack since it give disavdantage on ranged attack. Another is riposte which especially usefull on rogues, whenever a creature misses you melee attack you can attack it back at his turn allowing you to trigger another sneak attack since sneak limited per turn not per round.
The sword bard give you spellcasting option while still staying relevant as a martial fighter. all 3 flourish can be handy depending on the situation you in. Also you get +10 movement whenever you use the attack action Making you even more mobile. I would ask your first DM if he/she allow flourish to activate with a bow. RAW it is allowed but your DM might interpret it differently since it called *sword bard and blade flourish*
Ranger 5 is a solid multiclass, the same for battlemaster 3 (trip attack with ranged weapons is epic against flying creatures who fall to the ground when rendered prone).
The scout definitely excels at ranged combat. That being said if you plan on going crossbow you'll need to take the feat which will mean taking rogue to at least four. And if you're there, you'll get another sneak attack dice at five so might as well get to that. From there, I think fighter is your best bet. I like samurai for on demand advantage on attacks. This enables you to still get sneak advantage when you otherwise wouldn't. Get that to five as well for extra attack. Doing this will also get you the archery fighting style. Champion is a good option too. Gives you another number you can critically hit on.
You could actually multiclass with a Warlock hexblade. You'd be able to have the hand crossbow be your hex/pact weapon. Any time a hexblade can attack three times in a round with the hexblade's weapon, that's going to be good damage!
I'm a Lvl 4 Scout (Rogue), and I've just multiclassed into a Druid - it's a lot of fun! I've taken the Mold Earth (I buried someone in a pit I dug last game!) and Thorn Whip cantrips, and they have great, creative utility. Also, being able to cast Entangle and then shoot with advantage at entangled enemies is most useful!
I'm going Land Artic Druid for the Natural Recovery and additional spell options (also, it fits with my character's backstory).
Even two levels in Fighter would give you excellent options. Fighting style, (defense, +1AC) for example, and action surge, which while limited in uses can really save the day.
multiclassing a rogue with monk is actually a quite underrated, but potent, combination.

According to all known laws of aviation, there is no way a bee should be able to fly. Its wings are too small to get its fat little body off the ground. The bee, of course, flies anyway because bees don't care what humans think is impossible.

If you can afford the stats, divine smite stacks with sneak attack.
i really like the flavour of multiclass into ranger/gloom stalker. if you like to use crossbows this gives you a truly shadow assassin :)
5 lvl are enough to get so much value out of this, its just insane

I posted about this on the other side, but I'm having a blast with my ragged, devilishly nice and through and through criminal rogue-paladin. :D
In short 3lvl Rogue Assassin, 5lvl Defender Paladin with Oath of Conquest and a serious drug addiction.
