So I am new to Dnd and enjoying my first two games. In my first game I'm a Variant human Vengeance Paladin, but that's not why I'm here.
Art Quarrel is my rogue. He was born from a human mother after his demon father forcefully impregnated her. He was raised by a tiefling couple that lived in a small community near the village his mother was living in. His mother knew the tieflings as they worked for her father on their farm. Art always knew he was slightly different than the other tieflings but could never figure it out. One day his parents came to him and explained everything. Art wanted answers and set out on his adventure to discover who he is.
His current stats are 12,18,15,16,10,16
@lvl2 I managed to stealth through a house of sleeping wealthys and stole the Cloak of Elvenkind
Our party has now just reached lvl 3 and I was jealous of our wizards familiar from the beginning so... I became an Arcane Trickster. But find familiar was not good enough for me. I figured being that my back story was my father is a demon, maybe I could have a demon pet like a lock? I take find familiar to fill the slot, but maybe my demon father sent a Quasit to "watch" over me. or maybe he is part of a bigger plot to summon my father? my four other party goers and our dm hashed out many scenarios, covered the differences between find vs variant, even came to agreements on basic rules for the Quasit. Quasits are inherently ******** but I bet with a little bonding could become fairly useful and a fun familiar and story to tell. It also allows our Dm to control the Quasit to some aspect. We have come up with ideas like rolling to see if the telepathy works, and as the trust or bond is increased the %would get higher. Being a Quasit it has bite and being my variant familiar would be able to attack, so I would need to roll telepathy check to see if he would obey and join us in combat, if not he will disappear and stay out of harms way. Obviously being a variant familiar I also lose the ability to cast through the familiar. And because if a variant familiar dies its dead, I came up with the idea that if the Quasit dies it is transported to the Abyss and remains there until dusk. And we all realize that our Dm is going to probably have the Quasit poison us, or hide our gear. My human wizard already called it my alcoholic fairy godmother. The bronze dragonborn monk/cleric is as excited as I am. And our lizard barbarian/blood hunter hasn't said anything, I think he may try to eat the Quasit, he's already tried to eat a predominant npc's familiar... Im worried what our Dm is gonna make the Quasit do to us... Oh shoot I forgot our halfling bard/cleirc? we left at a trading post, he wanted to preach..
Thoughts??
Hope everyone is doing well!! Feedback and comments are obviously welcomed! Thanks in advance friend!
sounds like from what you want to do is more story than function. I would have worked out it showing up as part of the story, because a familiar that dies once and is gone means you took your 1 any school spell for an rp that will run its course somewhat quickly. It gets hit once and it is gonna die.
You missed the part where I said we worked out that if it dies. The Quasit is transported to the Abyss and remains there until dusk. Meaning if it does die. He will be back. At dusk...
I guess I was hoping for a few more people to comment.. At least I thought that more people on this forum would commented for the amount of people that have read it.. I actually thought I would get a lot of people commenting on this.. have I done something wrong? I can't see this being a horribly broken mechanic. I can see it definitely hurting us at some point. I can see it helping us more than a basic familiar in some cases.. Its something that will definitely evolve and gain other rules and change other mechanics of him as we go. But the biggest thing I see is fun.. For us, for the Dm. I can see by the end of it we will have designed something that one of us could use on a different char we decide to play... WHY HAS ONLY ONE PERSON COMMENTED..
Well to be honest it sounds like you worked with your dm to tweak a spell to meet your needs, that is what 5e is all about, making it your own. So it isn’t a bad idea, as for breaking the game you aren’t doing anything crazy, your using a version of the spell that Warlocks get, but even more restrictive so I don’t see any major issue, I did miss the respawn at dawn, so knowing that it seems ok to me.
and don’t feel bad about responses. I have post all the time people look at and don’t comment.

ONE GUY .. Ah, ok, then that is fine..
No one gonna say its a bad idea? I really thought I would get a few of those..
No one has any perspective on this? has no one done this before? will this break our Dnd game?
Y'all are all secretly stealing this idea for your next character.. (more than likely)
Someone other than AaronWho... Who only commented because he thought my Variant Fam would die and be dead before completely reading the OP .
No one gonna tear this apart?
OP *rolled 20 and crit everyones face off with this idea?

It's a cool idea, maybe Nerf the Quasit so the human wizard doesn't get jealous.
