So. A rogue healer... From my little test run I went with a Thief that takes the healer, inspiring leader, chef, and skilled feats as well as a +2 to dex so I could multiclass out of rogue, but if you wanna do solely a rogue, then either get a +2 in Charisma, Intelligence or Wisdom. With Healer... You can as a bonus action heal someone 1d6+24 hit points, action shove a potion down their throat and interaction to give the person another potion of healing. You could also use magic items in tandem with it at 13th level. Bonus action healers kit to heal and action rod if resurrection or staff of healing to heal. One kit at lvl 20 technically has a total of 10d6+240 healing. And it only costs a feat and 5gp. Furthermore, you can become the chef of the party by baking little pastries and hamding them out to all, giving them 6 temp hp as a bonus action on their turns. You cpuld spemd 4 hours prior to going in the dungeon to make these pastries for 4 players, hand them little satchels with the pastries inside them, and just before entering it, give a 10 minute speech of how proud your character is of the group and how happy they are to be where they are, granting them a 24 temp hp bonus from inspiring leader. Also if the party needs to take a short rest, you can pull out a delicious meal to give them 1d8 extra hp back on top of that if they spemd hit dice. This means with inspiring leader, chef, and the healer feats... You can do this:
-10d6+240hp from the kit for an average of 275hp gains.
-36 temp hp from the snacks (which last 8 hours after making them)
-24 temp hp with inspiring leader.
Which means ypu have the ability to heal the party a total of on average: 335hp.
And this is without multiclassing or the usage of magic items that can also heal or grant powerful buffs. I would also say the thief with its immense knowledge would also know how to brew magical potions because 1. At 13th level they can use magic items as if they were any race, class, or allignment and 2. These are already one use items and are less appetizing to make. If they can find the recipie to make a potion of Giant Strength, then any class should be able to make it IF they have proficiency in both alchemical and herbalism kits.
I just realized I never replied to you @CaptAster. Thank you again for all the advice. I'm actually still playing that rogue healer and just got a commission done to get him drawn! :)
I took a level into Cleric Tempest domain (story reasons in campaign) and have 11 levels in Rogue Thief. Now I'm a rogue wearing breast plate and a +1 shield (totaling to 21 AC) with Rogue's natural uncanny dodge and evasion. As you maybe can imagine, the DM gets frustrated trying to hit me. With that and the mobile feat to avoid opportunity attacks, I'm zooming across the entire map healing people.
On top of all this, with the 1 level in cleric I took fog cloud, so if there is not much terrain/cover to hide during a fight, I can just make my own cover. With passive 20 perception (using expertise), I'm able to get by attacking people based off listening where they move and stuff, or pop in and out of the cloud if I place it right.
I consider the build very similar to the healer ninjas from Naruto.
- Good use of Thieve's archetype
I've been having a lot of fun climbing around like an American Ninja Warrior and just having so many options during a fight. Not necessarily heavy damage output outside of sneak attack but its still fun.
- Good use of Expertise
I've put expertise into all my passive senses (perception, investigation and proficiency in insight), so nothing ever gets by my character. Passive perception of 20 and passive investigation of 19 is juicy. I do agree with putting expertise in Int skills, its been doing me a lot of work.
________
I've definitely found a nice little niche for myself in combat. The only disadvantage with the build thus far is dealing with multiple enemies, even if they are weak. Just not really much AOE damage in the build or extra attack. Even setting them on fire with oil or something usually doesn't work too well.
