I need Lore/Background Ideas for a soul knife rogue in an Eberron like home brew world. I’ve never played a rogue before. Race of the character is up in the air. Chaotic Good alignment, male, young man in his prime. Please lend me your creativity.
Funnily enough, I'm playing a Soul Knife Warforged. Lore wise I did it as a Haunted One background as the Artificer who made my character believed Warforged, while great at Martial Prowess, could be even better as Assassins and Spys. So, he experimented on my character; performing twisted things (live vivisection, psychological tests, physical pain tolerance tests, etc.) simply to see the limits, before tinkering in his robot brain to somehow channel Psychic abilities to assist him (flavorwise I made it where he essentially added a magical combat matrix that could use light to generate weapons, such as the Soul Blades. Said combat matrix would adapt and learn as if it was a silent A.I living in his head.)
That's just me though. Personally, I'm thinking of multiclassing at around lvl 10 but am not sure what into yet, as I've been trying to think of things that have good Synergy and or mechanics; besides psi-warrior in the Fighter class.
I'm playing a Soulknife in an Eberron campaign. Just started. I'm playing a half-elf, who worked for the House Phiarlan (House of Shadows, more thieves than Assassins) in Cyre, before Cyre was destroyed. He'd found out his contract was being sold to House Thuranni (House of Shadows, more assassins then thieves). During the Last War he started as a spy and thief, but elevated to assassin. When his "powers" manifested, he was in a monastery learning to focus his power. It was at this time that Cyre was destroyed by the deadly fog.
He believes he's an independent contractor now (just went to Level 4). He's Chaotic Neutral, not because he's chaos on wheels, but after finding out he'd been "sold", he learned to value his freedom and that is now his most valuable commodity. This obviously has some potential for flaws, but we'll see. Alignment is not as important in Eberron (at least the way we're playing it). If you're looking to be more of a thief, you might consider attaching your services to House Phiarlan. If you're seeking to be an assassin type rogue, you'd want to be more associated with House Thuranni.
There is lots of potential. You could be a Kalashtar whose psionics and independent ways have lead to them a life of crime. You could be hired by House Kundarak (House of Warding), and you're hired to test out their systems. I look at the Dragonmarked houses as good catalysts for coming up with a background. Hope that helped some.
