Does a dragonborn sorcerer gain two breath weapon abilities? One for being dragonborn and one for the ancestry line re sorcerer? I can't find anything in the PHB to suggest that is the case, but I have meta gaming player who believes that is the case as it is mentioned twice on his D&D Beyond character sheet.
Draconic Bloodline doesn't grant a breath weapon, or damage resistance; it gives you the ability to gain damage resistance by spending a sorcerer point (Elemental Affinity), though you could give yourself spells that are like a breath weapon such as Dragon's Breath or Tasha's Caustic Brew etc.
Basically, while the choice of ancestries is the same as for a dragonborn, the effects of that choice are different; you can double-down on the same ancestry for the extra damage boost, or pick an entirely different ancestry to go dual or unusual ancestry.
Former D&D Beyond Customer of six years: With the axing of piecemeal purchasing, lack of meaningful development, and toxic moderation the site isn't worth paying for anymore. I remain a free user only until my groups are done migrating from DDB, and if necessary D&D, after which I'm done. There are better systems owned by better companies out there.
I have unsubscribed from all topics and will not reply to messages. My homebrew is now 100% unsupported.
Is he playing a UA metallic dragonborn because at lvl 3 they do have 2 breath weapons. the basic one does damage, the second one they get at lvl 3 can push things back and incapacitate them
Would be your answer than, Metallics get a damage breath weapon based on their type than at lvl 3 get the pushing and incapacitating one (does no damage though)
