Totally, just trying to think it through. yeah, so feelin Web will be down the road and will stick with Nathairs Mischief for a bit longer. Will add Suggestion, which I think can go a long way for our campaign. then maybe Tashas Caustic Brew, also since it’s lvl 1. Cause I will only have 3 level 2 slots, I’d rather not have more spells than I can use. I know options are good but don’t see something in 2 drastically different enough to justify… except maybe enhance ability. incidentally , what’s the Etiquette for using Suggestion on a teammate… if I’m not harming them?
Concerning the original question, i really like the versatility of the damage that Chaos Bolt can inflict.
However, i have also used Ice Knife in the past. I always go with flavor over mechanics. I will try to spread out the spells in utility and combat (DCs and also attack rolls), but sometimes the choices are too obvious in terms of what goes best for the story.
After more research on Mind Whip, it sounds awesome, I gotta have it. Doing that and Suggestion in place of Chaos Bolt. Then gonna add Chill Touch to Cantrip and replace Infestation with Create Bonfire I think just to get a little control going.
I would advise against Create Bonfire. The main drawback is it requires concentration and fire damage does tend to get resisted a awful lot. Also the area is relatively small so it is quite easy for enemies to sidestep it or step out of it. A nifty cantrip I would suggest is Shocking Grasp for those times when something scary gets too close you can Shocking Grasp them and run away without eating a opportunity attack.
Ah that’s super helpful. I was thinking of Bonfire putting a guy in it to try to group some enemies together a little more, then hit them with Nathairs Mischief when they’re close. But maybe I’m over thinking and using too much of time with something like that. like the idea of getting something for the occasional close range, it’s true I’m pretty vacant in that dept.
Create bonfire is in my option a great spell for areas with an entrance 10ft or less as the enemy can then only funnel in using the other segment meaning you create a choke point for melee fighters or will stop them from going through as sure it likely will not do anything but if the enemy is human or a beast they would not likely want to run through an active fire even though they will likely be fine damage wise

Hmm thank you.
