This is an idea I've seen floating around various other forums, the idea of using the Spell Points alternate rule from the DMG exclusively for sorcerers with the other spell casters sticking to the normal system, the idea being that A. the Spell Point system fits sorcerers thematically and B. sorcerer's are slightly underpowered, and this increased flexibility helps to make up for that a bit.
I had the same idea. I just switched to the Spell Point rule at level 3 and will be playing with it for the first time this week. I don't expect much combat for testing. But on paper it seems to be a unique twist to spell casting that can benefit the Sorc. The other casters in my group were not as attracted to the rule as I am. So they will continue to use Spell Slots.
What are your thoughts on combining Sorcery Points and Spell Points into a single pool?
I prefer the spell point variant for all casters. It just makes more sense, like a mana pool instead of the weirdness that is Vancian spellcasting. I always offer it to my players, though they haven't taken me up on it. I also ask if I can use it when I play.
Despite preferring to use it on all casters, I think that sorcerers still get an edge using it because I add the sorcery point and spell point pools together. That's a leg up that can potentially give more spells or massive amounts of metamagic depending on the situation, which is something other casters don't have.

I myself have run with the spellpoints for sorcerer. To me it seems to fit the class the best (That and eldritch knight). Though I do not add the sorcery and spell points together. At 150 points give or take when put together, it seems a little OP.
You can add the points together with converting your spell slots though.
The conversion rate between spell slots and spell points and spell slots and sorcery points is 1:1, so it is fair to just make it one pool
The "downside" to doing it this way though removes the forced use of bonus action to convert the slot to the sorc points. In addition you can't have more sorc points than you table shows. I have given this a thought before of how awesome it'd be too. That BA rules kicks ya in the A though.
