we are playing the adventure DotMM and probably won't survive the next evening... Our group has quite an aggressive playstyle and we are currently fighting against a CR20+ monster on level 13...
So far I have played the following Sorcerer. Aberrant Mind Sorcerer https://ddb.ac/characters/49278130/LglE4r => Opponent was invisible and stabbed me from behind. The group forgot to stabilize me :D
Wild Magic Sorcerer https://ddb.ac/characters/70334713/6SZC8A => Our DM equipped us very well, but that will probably not be enough. This is where I realize that I didn't pack enough defensive spells...
My next attempt to survive in this adventure will be another Sorcerer. It may be any subclass other than the top two. All official books allowed for building, but a Drow or Half-Drow would not fit into the current setting at all.
Spells like Mage Armor and Shild are not even worth it at this level. So to my question: - What are spells for you that you would absolutely take with you, so that you are not immediately in the dirt? - Are there talents for you that should absolutely be there?
So far I find the Clowwork Souls Sorcerer quite interesting, because it brings many defensive options. What would your build look like to survive hell?
Honest answer. Mage armour and shield. With a plus 2 in dex that gives you a way to get 20 ac. Without that… you are kinda just going to die if you get hit. I don’t remember if sorcerers get it but absorb elements is decent. Silvery barbs is also not bad but if you are committed to the zero shield or mage armour, that probably won’t change a thing.
misty step or dimension door is a good one to just get out of dodge when needed.
otherwise it’ll depend on your subclass. Clockwork is the most powerful one left.
Mage Armor and Shield aren't worth it at this level? Ridiculous. They're always worth it as long as your Sorcerer gets hit by regular attacks. Don't take them and you'll regret it.
