I am currently working on making a Elemental Subclass for Sorcerer, so I was curious if I should add any other elements besides the normal four. I am also new to using D&D Beyond's Forums, so I'm not sure if this is the appropriate place to ask this. If it isn't, please let me know for the future. :)
Frankly I never liked the western traditional four based on states of matter (Earth = solid, Water = liquid, Air = Gaseous, Fire = Plasma).
Nor did I like the eastern traditional based on Wuxing's five agents (Fire, Earth, Water, Metal, Wood). Wuxing is a very complex philosophy not easily translated to D&D.
Worst of all, the spells and creatures are not associated with either set of elements, making it more difficult to build a subclass on it. The damage types, aside from Fire do not match up. The spells are not tagged, though you could go through and do this yourself. About the only things that do match up are the elemental planes.
I think this would be a LOT of work for you, without any significant rewards. But if say you are on a Navy Submarine with nothing to do for 6 months, go for it.

The Homebrew and House Rules section of the forum will be a better fit for this topic.
