So new campaign level 1 Divine Soul, I will be the defacto healer (sort of)... The party consists of a Monk, Druid (Moon to be), Bard, Ranger, and myself.
Halfling Divine Soul, I carry a Dagger, Crossbow, and Boomerang for flavor.
Which of these spell considerations sound better:
Guidance, Light, Minor Illusion, Mind Sliver, Cure Wounds, Guiding Bolt, Mage Armor
Toll the dead was a good call. I’d actually go with fire bolt over the xbow. You’ll use your casting stat to attack, it will do more damage and the damage will scale.
Also, you didn’t ask but, healing word over cure wounds. In combat, it’s a bonus action at range instead of an action up close. Either will get your ally up. And even with the potential for more hp from cure wounds, the ally is going to go back down after one hit, most likely. Out of combat time for a short rest and hit die.

Thanks for the reply! I chose Cure Wounds as his divine spell over Bane, Bless, Protection, and whatever the other option was, so it was a freebie. He is a halfling divine soul with a Dex of 16 and Charisma of 16 from the point buy method so his chance to hit with the xbow is the same as a Firebolt would be. I also needed Light since halflings don't have night vision. I was going to take Firebolt @ level 4 and likely take healing word sometime later as the Bard in the party has it, which I wasn't anticipating him doing.
It came down to Mind Sliver or Sacred Flame for a save based attack cantrip, but I think Toll the Dead prob is better for now.

I’m no expert, but sacred flame is harder to come by.
Speaking of which, i would at least take some healing. Personally I would drop Mage Armor for it, but i’ve heard great things about mage armor too, so whichever.

I did consider that but the DM has been tight lipped on giving anything away about how the campaign will go, so I took defense since the Bard can help heal. Our Bard literally took all utility spells and doesn't even have vicious mockery loool.
Swap cure wounds for healing word. This will allow you to twin things that aren't next to each other and make it so you dont have to run over to a fallen ally to get them up. You will also still have your action to cast a cantrip or something.
Bless is also worth swapping something for especially as you level and the damage of your level 1 spells is the same as a cantrip. A +d4 to attacks and saves is always good at every level.

I have been debating that... Cure Wounds is my divine spell so its free. I didn't want to take cure wounds and healing word so early, but Bless as the free divine spell and a med kit sounds good too looool.
I'd take mindsliver over TtD without hesitation. Mind sliver can be used to help you land more impactful spells. Mind Sliver is a no brainer pick for every caster I roll these days. I'd definitely take bless over cure wounds as my free spell as well.

Any time an unfathomably powerful entity sweeps in and offers godlike rewards in return for just a few teensy favors, it’s a scam. Unless it’s me. I’d never lie to you, reader dearest.
I like the 4th level damage plan of firebolt/toll the dead. If your DM uses cover a lot then sacred flame is a great choice, if not then stick with your original choices. I like mind sliver at higher level where the disadvantage on a save can have more usage. Really mind sliver is all about knowing the play style of your party. If the bard specializes in save or suck spells, or can manipulate saves as well then you casting mind sliver and them manipulating the roll becomes a potent combo.
Cure wounds vs bless. I would generally go bless. You may not find a need for your concentration and bless is extremely powerful in all tiers of play. Not missing and making saves is evergreen. The usefulness of cure wounds goes down as you go up in level and stronger healing spells become available. I would probably skip healing word and keep mage armor and guiding bolt as your spells known.

At some point it's worth swapping out 1st level prepped damage spells for uitlity/buff spells since your cantrip will end up doing as much damage without needing a slot. Bless is by far the best use of this

Yea I ended up going Bless over Cure Wounds and now have Healing Word. Also took Mind Sliver over Toll the Dead, Firebolt or Ray of Frost at level 4 is incoming. Based on our group dynamic I think it works well, we are level 3 now so I also have Aid.

I decided Firebolt or any other similar cantrip is unnecessary so early because I can just fire my crossbow for an attack roll action in combat.
I'm basically torn between Sacred Flame and Mind Sliver...
Thanks for the responses!
Ugh these forums are so dead... Speaking of which, I went with Toll the Dead instead of Sacred Flame or Mind Sliver.

Understood. Sorry, I haven’t played with others in a long while, so i’m focused on my characters singularly.
Good luck with your campaign!
