I can't seem to choose a dragon type for dragon sorcerer? I am trying this on my android phone so that may be part of the problem. Anyone else having this?

Because the choice is not mechanically relevant until level 6, you have to wait until then to choose your elemental affinity. In fact, you never choose your "dragon type" in 2024 from the character sheet options (just the elemental type), so I would just put it as part of your background when you make your character.
If you are lamenting the fact that it is no longer present, you are not alone. However, I do see the pattern here of paring down the character creation steps to just the mechanical ones and letting the players and DM do what they want with the lore of the character. It puts more onus on the player to actually think about the backstory instead of just choosing from options, and newer players may need some help with this if they are unfamiliar with a particular setting, but then the DM has control of the setting anyway. I guess they made it easier for a DM to say that - for example - Black Dragons have cold breath in their setting...
(Thank - not what I Was expecting) So when I reach 6th level, I choose a damage type (not a dragon color) and the character sheet will add my CHA mod to my to my damage when I inflict that type of damage with a spell and my resistance to that damage type will also show up on my character sheet under resistances? (The Draconic Sorcery color is just favor (that might be reflected in my character art ) until level 6 and then the color itself its still just flavor but the corresponding damage type will be mechanically relevant starting at 6th level?.)

Correct on most counts. The damage doesn't seem to be added automatically on the character sheet to spells, so you'll have to remember that manually (I made an incomplete character to test this, so that might be the problem).
