Hi All, dumb question, but just wanting to make something 100% clear for myself.
The new rulings for quicken spell: "When you cast a spell with a casting time of an action, you can spend 2 Sorcery Points to change the casting time to a Bonus Action for this casting. You can’t modify a spell in this way if you’ve already cast a level 1+ spell on the current turn, nor can you cast a level 1+ spell on the current turn after modifying a spell in this way."
All very simple, pretty much states that you can't cast multiple levelled spells - However, I just want to check a particular interaction, specifically with cantrips. because of this specific text: "You can’t modify a spell in this way if you’ve already cast a level 1+ spell on the current turn"
Is it now impossible to ever cast a levelled spell as an action and then immediately follow it up with a bonus action cantrip (as, to my understanding, cantrips are level 0 spells), I.e., My Warlock/Sorcerer casts hold person as their action and then immediately quickens Eldritch blast to take advantage of the paralysis effect.
From RAW I would say it is now impossible to do combo's such as this - is that correct?
^^ this. You can quicken a cantrip BEFORE you cast a leveled spell, but not after.
from your example, you're correct. You cannot cast hold person, then quicken the eldritch blast to hit it while it's paralyzed. What you CAN do is quicken a mind sliver to give the target a -1d4 to it's save, then cast your hold person so you'll have a higher likelihood of sticking the hold person. The rest of your group is going to get to unload on the creature, but you're not in the same turn.
Any time an unfathomably powerful entity sweeps in and offers godlike rewards in return for just a few teensy favors, it’s a scam. Unless it’s me. I’d never lie to you, reader dearest.

Thanks peeps - Quicken seems much more restrictive now, but still ok. Will need to use my brain a bit more in combat when forming combos - Ta!
Addendum - It looks like you can however quicken a spell and use your bonus action first and then cast a cantrip as your action - If I'm reading this right? Which just makes this a worthless word salad.

You can:
1. Cast a cantrip as an action, then quicken a cantrip. 2. Cast a cantrip as an action, then quicken a leveled spell. 3. Quicken a leveled spell, then cast a cantrip as an action. 4. Quicken a cantrip, then cast a cantrip as an action.
Any other combinations are not allowed.
So, while you cannot quicken Mind Sliver and then cast Hold Person, you can cast Mind Sliver as an action, then quicken Hold Person for the same effect. The difference, as I see it, is that this restricts you from using a different MM on the leveled spell during the turn you are quickening (until level 7). Which, it must be said, is a pretty big distinction once you have enough Sorcery Points.

I think this is it exactly. For example, it stops you from quickening Mind Sliver then using Heightened Spell for a double saving throw debuff combo. That would be incredibly broken.

Yes, this is how I read it also.

Correct if you’ve already cast a level 1+ spell on your turn, you can’t modify a spell with Quickened Spell Metamagic.

Yeah you're right, I was mistaken
