Just curious if anyone has tried the spell point system for their sorceror rather than spell slots and if they found it better. Reading the spell point system in the dmg I think it could benefit the sorceror massively and give that real feeling of the power from within. What's everyone expierences?
I prefer spell points for basically everything but Wizards and Warlocks. The table in the DMG is pretty well balanced as long as you follow the restrictions for only one spell at each of level 6, 7, 8, and 9 per day. The only drawback is it's not supported on the DDB character sheets, so I have to track it manually.
I also really like the spell point system. It gives that sense of having a mana pool. That you can cast so many low level spells, you don't have the strength to cast a high level one anymore, instead of casting so many low level spells that you only have the strength to cast high level spells...
It nerfs sorcerer's font of magic feature a little though.
It does nerf font of magic, true. But being able to, say, animate objects and then spam synaptic static on every other turn is pretty potent for a big fight-of-the-day. :)
Font of magic is gives sorcerers the ability to convert high level slots into multiple low level slots or vice versa. This option is moot when you don't have limited number of slots, but rather a pool of spell points.

*Warlocks don't benefit from spell point rules.

Thank you. When I next play I will try it for myself I think as both of you seemed positive about it :)

Why is it a nerf exactly?
I don't get it

It's a shame that DnD Beyond doesn't do the spell points system, as it's one I really want to use for sorcerers.
