so the sourcebook xanatars guide to everything holds not only a lot of subclasses, but also a lot of tables to roll on for inspiration on the backstory and specific elements of your character, no matter your class.
and with that came the suggestion that the reason you are a sorcerer is becuase you are the result of "generations of selective breeding", and i am really curious as to how you selectively breed for magical traits, especially in races that are not typically able to innately cast any spells, like if your character is an triton, tiefling, aasimar or an drow it might make sense, you just round up these individuals, see who is the best at innately casting their spells or wich ones know the most innate spells, let them pass on their genes and continue the process untill you have an individual so good at innately casting spells that they more or less are sorcerers, but how does that check out when you are of an race that cant cast spells innately, races such as humans, halflings, and dwarves, how do you select out the most desireable magical traits if there are none to be had?
but this is also an really interesting idea because it allows for some great storyteling and worldbuilding opportunities, for instance your sorcerer could be part of an familiy that has by means of eugenics or whatnot become specialized in an specific role in society such as warriors on the battlefeild blasting their opponents with arcane energies, or as weilders of healing magic, or as people designated to counter and dispel magic in wartime (enhance abillity, shield and counterspell/dispell magic being their speciality), or maybe even as specific as your familiy being created as living water dispensers, using create/destroy water and create food and water to feed the hungry in an desert cabal, it allows for the concept of an society made up of sorcerers and only sorcerers, perhaps even an society where wizards are the ones who are looked down oppon and sorcerers seen as the reliable ones, perhaps an society even where muggles are hunted down and executed, think of all the plot hooks such an society could create!

One way i thought of it is basically people who were exposed to magical phenomenon such as a tear in the material realm to the weave causing magic to leak out and those who were exposed to it were taken and studied by some kingdom/empire of sorcerers and use said individuals and have them breed mix and matching to achieve a better understanding of magic and hopefully make better city, people with magic be it to serve to be citizens of one nation of magic. Just hope they don't become Netheril 2.0 (google it, it's basically a kingdom of magic users before spellslots became a thing)

Born under the watch of something from the furthest corners of the far realms.... It knows all.... it sees all... and it asks: "What is it that you want to see?"... and my answer is... ALL"

of course sorcerers can be made in ways other than an magical lineage, what i meant to say is that without at least a little innate magic as an starting of point you cannot breed sorcerers

i would imagine that there would be a sort or background check perhaps through divination and historical records of individuals. like i feel like the overarching idea would be someone like a powerful wizard who trying to create essentially a superior "hero" specifically tracking down people who have dragons blood or demons blood ect. or perhaps thats the reason your this particular sorcerer's apprentice; he's had a hand in your creation your parents meeting in the first place through suggestion spells ect. ; because he know both carry the latent powers of two powerful dragons and he's been toying with your life more then you will ever know.
mmm tasty flavour, of course should he be a wizard he might even have exposed to the character as an child to potentially dangerous magical forces and planar portals in hopes that that would lead to further development of magical talents

yes of course it was me it was always me. i spent two decades researching and another waiting for your parents to come of age. spent countless hours forcing them to come together. i drove your fathers family from there farm; i burned your mothers village to the ground. manipulated every step every breath they took until they came stumbling into each others arms. when their families protested it was i who convinced then with an enchantment to run away together. i gave them everything work, food, shelter; as if the gods themselves had blessed them. and what did i get? NOTHING! you were born unremarkable without a hint of magic. so there was only one thing to do; took them and left you in the care of that orphanage. for years i experimented on them to find a way to wake up your true nature. and i did it it cost them their lives but by god i did it; and look just how far you've come. do you hate me? so be it; if you manage to kill me you will only prove that i was right and through you my greatest creation i will live on.
