Draconic Origin (Fire) Sorcerers or the Phoenix Origin Sorcerer?
I know that pure blasting, and focusing on only one element is bad in general, however it's an old character I've had laying around since my MTG Red "Burn" deck which featured cards like Inferno, Infernal Colossus, Firebolt, Fireball, Wall of Fire, Breath of Darigaaz and so on. It was basically an anti-swarm/tribal deck that could take care of mass elves/slivers/whatever and eventually became a character all on its own.
In addition other influences like Avatar: The Last Airbender and general fire-based casters like the WoW Fire Mage with Pyroblast, Flame Strike and so on, and the trope of "flying with fire" like jet fuel from either ones hands (Bakugo from My Hero Academia for a recent example of hands) or feet, etc..
It's just a common trope even if it's a ****** caster as far as optimized D&D is concerned.
For the moment at least, I prefer the draconic origin. Phoenix might be better in future iterations, but draconic is very stable and reliable, where some of the Phoenix features seem a little off.
Also, blasting in 5e is alright, even if you're only focusing on one element. Just keep 1-3 buff or controller spells in reserve and focus on taking down groups, as you'll never compete in single target damage.

So for the intents and purposes of support and enhancing the theme, just a Fire based Dragon Origin is the best "pyromancer" option in the game at the moment, or "Fire Mage" if you will.
I think so, yes. The phoenix sorcerer only gets to add their charisma modifier to damage one fight per day, while the draconic sorcerer is more reliable (after level 6).
The Phoenix Sorcerer looks like a cool concept, but as it appeared, it was kinda meh. A one trick pony, and it could only use its one trick once per day at that. Not only does a Draconic sorcerer get you that damage boost all the time, but it gives you extra health which is always useful and saves you the trouble of taking Mage Armor. And that's just for campaigns that run to medium levels. At higher levels, it gives you wings. Phoenix, meanwhile, slightly improves that one trick you can do once a day that will make the team medic hate you.
In one of the free MTG Dnd expansions (Plane shift: Kaladesh) they have a sorcerer subclass called pyromancer based off of chandra and other red planeswalkers it seems to be what your looking for (if your DM allows)

Now, if only the Plane Shift articles could get added to the dndbeyond builder. I really don't understand why they're not yet. No UA from before Jan 2018 makes sense and is fine. But it's not like the plane shift articles will ever receive an update and they're relatively balanced in my opinion. I want to use the character builder here more but it makes it difficult without all the options available.

I put it in via homebrew. I'd really like to see it refined and released officially.

Thanks for the evaluation, Dragon Origin Sorcerer it is!

There's a pretty nice Pyromancer in Plane Shift: Kaladesh.

That's an insane class option, pretty much removes the drawbacks of being a fire based caster in my opinion. I like it.

Already mentioned, though definitely correct.
