Compare Hex with Bane. If you're not taking advantage of how Hex stacks with multiple attacks per turn of Eldritch Blast, it's not a fair comparison. Both require concentration, which is a very important thing for spellcasters to keep in mind.
Hex automatically (no saving throw) gives them disadvantage on ability checks with one stat, and targets one creature. Hex does have a 90ft range at least and requires just a Bonus Action. Bane lets them do one Charisma save, and then makes them subtract a D4 fromallsaving throwsas well as subtracting a D4 from all attacks. And it lets you target three creatures. Unfortunately, Bane has just a 30ft range and requires an Action to cast.
It's more difficult to land Bane on a target due to it costing an Action, allowing a Charisma save, and having a 30ft range. But you can put it on 3 targets, and it's a much much much more powerful debuff than Hex. Hex is only worth concentrating on if you're doing multiple attacks per turn. If you're not doing multiple attacks per turn, Hex isn't worth it.
Hex isnt just a combat spell, it can be used in RP settings if you need to beat an NPC on a roll. And being able to subtle spell it makes it better.
True. And you can switch your Hex from one target to another, it's not locked onto the first target that you cast it on.
So if you're still concentrating on Hex, you can put it on someone during a social situation without using a spell slot. And probably without needing to use subtle spell either, although that would be up to the DM.

I'm doing something similar in a new campaign. I switched Tasha's Hideous Laughter for Arms of Hadar. I will keep Calm Emotions for now but may switch it out for Suggestion later. I'd say pay attention to any spell that in any way seems to mess with the mind. Take a look at minor illusion, hypnotic pattern and phantasmal force for a start.
Hi im in the same boat here but does DnD beyond actually let you swap the spells out for the psionic spells feature? I wanna add some different ones in and I can't for the life of me figure out how to do it on my character builder.
You can't unless you home-brew. D&D Beyond's developers can't seem to figure out how to do that. Some people home brew the subclass and it seems to work for them. I just keep a pencil and paper list that I share with my DM.

Here is my list, everything not on the list im keeping
Arms of Hadar, trade for Hex
Calm Emotions trade for Suggestion
Evards Black Tentacles, trade for Arace Eye
Rorys Telepathic Bond, trade for Dominate Person
Telekinesis, trade for Modify memory (and then pickup Telekinesis with one of your normal spell slots)
arms of hadar is my least favorite spell on the list. so glad we can trade them out
Telekinesis can be a useful spell to cast with no components.
I would recommend Tasha's Mind Whip, Hold Person, Blindness/Deafness, Hypnotic Pattern, Slow, Banishment, Confusion, Synaptic Static, Hold Monster, Eyebite, and Mass Suggestion
And the Mind Sliver cantrip of course.
is hex worth taking?
By multiclassing Warlock? Or by taking the Fey Touched Feat? Or by taking the Magic Initiate feat?
its an enchantment spell. that makes it eligible to be swapped with the other AM spells
If you're not learning Eldritch Blast, I can't see why you would want to learn Hex.
The free disadvantage on an enemy’s ability score
It's disadvantage on ability checks. It's not disadvantage on saving throws. And it requires your concentration.

It works well with Scorching Ray.
Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.

I highly recommend Gypnotic Pattern. Just remember it's illusion not enchantment
