Hexblades and Oath of Conquest Paladins are getting all the Xanathar’s love, but as for me, I’m drawn inexplicably toward a more shadowy source. Anyone else looking at a Shadow Magic Sorcadin of some sorts? The one I’m messing with is a half-Drow inspired by the Japanese Onryo of legend, and working toward Oath of Vengance, maybe Assassin, too. Curious whether there are any others of us out there, and how it’s going with the build?

That which is, cannot be written. That which is written, may never be.
The strength of the grave feature synergizes quite well with the tanky nature of a paladin. And you could play up the more trickstery nature of a drow, a crown oath paladin might work; maybe said drow is a former honorguard or what have you. The champion challenge ability to draw a bunch of agro would pair greatly with strength of the grave too.
Other than that, the on the nose choice would be to convince your DM to let you play an "oath breaker" paladin. Even though technically an oath breaker isn't a paladin, because breaking your god's tenants means they don't share their cool powers with you, but eh you know w/e. Hellish rebuke on your oath spells would help dps, and crown of madness is very on theme.
You could also take devotion or ancient oath, for the glowing magic weapon divinity or moonbeam, if you want as sort of "light in the darkness" theme.
Thanks Rabbot. I've played an OotC before and liked his commanding presence, just not sure to which Crown this fellow would owe allegiance. As for oath breaker, since wha I'm trying to build is a general purpose AL character, don't think I'll have that option. Appreciate the moonbeam suggestion, though, as I haven't looked into that angle.

Yeah honestly moonbeam is a great dps boost in oath of ancient's kit. Ensnaring strike doesn't hurt either. Also, if you don't mind spreading your spells slots a little thin to hit level 7 on your paladin side, you (and anyone next to you) straight up get resistance to spell damage. Spell like abilities don't count, but it's still a solid reason to go oath of ancients. You'd lose out on a good chunk of slots, but between that and strength of the grave, you might just be on par with the tankiness of a barbarian.
Oath of Conquest paladins are sometimes called "Hell Knights" and have neat fear related effects, so that might be a workable approach, Shadow Sorcerer + Conquest Pally.
