So, i am a fan of the old ones from mythos such as Cthulhu, Hastur, Yog Sathoth and the rest. Then i got this idea of a very strange old one. The creature itself was always there but almost unknown. It mainly accepts bargains and rarely accepts worshipers. The maddening thing about this creature that it mainly focuses on two things, salvaging parts from anything it chooses and ruining other cults. Reasons? No body knows... Motives? No alive that knows about it.
The old one is very picky when picking who to make a bargain with. And it promises to give a path to achieve goals and lend powers in order to get them. And all of those who makes a bargain with it do achieve their goals in the end but only after picking a fight against any cult and making a big mark on it by either exposing them or wiping them about. However non of the entities seem to be able to locate that old one nor take down it's Cultists, probably because it already knows their future? who knows.
So this is my idea does it sound good? or is it bad? though tbh, i just want to make a non evil seeming old one.

Born under the watch of something from the furthest corners of the far realms.... It knows all.... it sees all... and it asks: "What is it that you want to see?"... and my answer is... ALL"
I like the idea of the flavor of being antagonistic to other cults. The Cthulhu mythos is full of how The Old Ones compete with each other. It also means your (being a Cthulhu Cultist I ASSUME you Evil and Chaotic) you still work well with a Party, because while you might be insane... you're best to have pointed toward the enemy. The Old Ones were never "good" or "nice" at best they are "indifferent".
Question when you say "Cult" when do you draw the line? When does a Cult becomes a Religion and not something you're trying to wipe out? Is this a "I won't let you destroy the world, that's MY job!" kind of thing?
You could always borrow from Tzeentch in Warhammer. He's the Changer of the Ways and Chaos God of Magic. The thing is as a Cultist of Tzeentch he sees into the future and will show you it. The problem is Tzeentch will *always* lie to you. The trick to figure figure out/guess when he's telling you the truth and when he's lying to you. Part of his tests is trying to kill off his Cultists to make sure he only has the best. I've always liked his flavor because it's a good explanation for why the Chaos Gods never win in Warhammer. Tzeentch likes "the game" and doesn't want to "win". For him "winning" is playing. Atleast that is my take on Tzeentch, but I could be wrong because he could be lying to me. :)

Unlike fiends and other similar creatures, Old Ones aren't inherently evil. In simplest terms, they just are. Neither good or evil, they are the raw essence of reality itself. And just as nature doesn't consider the moral implications of tearing up a coast with a hurricane or laying waste to a civilization with a volcanic eruption, neither does an Old One consider the cost of it's mere existence in a world. Granted there are Old Ones who are quite destructive but again, the same could be said for mother nature's wrath upon the world.
As for your needs of creating a more "good" aligned Old One, you can go one of two ways. First, don't create anything at all and just pick Y’chak the Violet Flame. It's desire to develop life (albeit through disastrous means) could work perfectly for your needs. Second, you could choose to create an antithesis to Dendar the Night Serpent or the Leviathan. Having your Old One being born about by the first dream or from the leftover excesses of order during creation. Because the multiverse is very much about maintaining some semblance of balance, with many Old Ones often finding themselves filling such needs.
Most of the Great Old Ones are rather evil by design. And, while Hadar and Caiphon are pretty nasty, there was a time when there were less evil versions made for people who wanted that thing. For the GOO, that's Ulban the star. Basically a comet that comes from the future when the Lords of Madness awoke and destroyed the world; using its magic, the comet sent itself back in time and attempts to stop aberrations from destroying everything.
