Anyone who has used this Pact Boon, how did it go for you? I’m planning on using it on a social manipulator with Mask of Many Faces combined with Deception and Intimidation to make up for a lack of Expertise (besides Skill Expert) who uses Eldritch Blast and Goblin semi-cunning action in combat.
Was the d4 really that helpful, did you take any of its unique invocations, and did you hold on to it or did you give it to an ally?
If your talking about the core ability to Pact of the Talisman.
It's effectively an always on when you need it Guidance. Which is one of the Cantrips that many people swear by and try to abuse in ways beyond it's power and practicality all of the time. So it is useful thing to have or to give to somebody else.
There is an invocation if that's what your meaning called Protection of the Talisman that is effectively the saving throw part of bless that you can take. Another spell that is often considered quite valuable. It doesn't have the attack bonus part but it is another always on effect for anybody carrying the Talisman whether it's you or another.
And don't think that the wording of "On a failed save" or "on a failed check" because realistically bless and Guidance are only truely useful in those times where somebody would have failed but it's close anyway. Rolling them on something that already would have succeeded doesn't often mean anything. And rolling them on a massive failure wouldn't have helped. So the wording is not really limiting in it's supposed limitation of when you get to use it. Because it covers all the times that you would most want to use either one anyway.
I’m asking for both the base Pact Boon at level 3 and for any of its related invocations. (I noticed I called it an invocation in the original post, I’ve fixed it)
Also, it recharges only on a long rest, but what happens if you make a new one as part of a short rest? Does it keep the original’s charges, or does it refill them, basically making it short rest recharge as long as you aren’t giving it to anyone else for long periods of time?

I forgot they put a proficiency bonus limit on the base power. But I would say that it is best to consider it a per day limit regardless of remaking the amulet during a rest. Some DM's might allow you to recharge them but I know thta some certainly would not and so that's probably the safest way to go.
The Truth is that For the base power that works on ability checks should rarely come up so often that you run out of uses anywhere after some of the mid-levels at most. Keep in mind that any roll you know your going to fail badly you do not have to use the power on to use up one of your uses, since it is your option to use it.
I made plans to make myself a Warlock with a Genie patron that was going to have Talisman.
I liked the theme of that and it did feel fitting.
Taking the invocations Rebuke of the Talisman seemed like a fun thing for some crowd control, not sure if it would break a combo if the enemy has multi-attack and they suddenly can't reach the target, as the ability acticates on a hit. I also find that a d4 can save someone in a pinch, so I would not underestimate that option. If you stack it with other things, such as guidance and bless it could be very nice indeed.
How is this not totally worse than taking pact of the tome and just taking guidance and resistance and one other cantrip? The only benefit from the talisman is someone being able to take it and use it without being right next to you, but still it's extremely limited by the proficiency bonus limit. I suppose it's use is that it can be done without spending an action beforehand, making it more useful in combat (though ability checks are pretty circumstantial in combat situations unless you consistently grapple), but in general it would pretty much always be better to have the cantrip.
I think it's actually very useful, I think folk forget that dispel magic, spell scrolls and counterspell are all checks. Also it's even better if you consider that RAW there's nothing stopping you using it on Skill Contests too (they're a form of ability/skill check).
Meaning that things like when you use Detect Thoughts to probe deeper or when you are using Telekinesis to hold something will always have +2 bonus on average which can really make or break those clutch situations.
For GOOlocks I think it's thematic and definitely plays to their exclusive spells. But also generally useful without having to Guidance or Resistance spam. Both of which are concentration spells that are one bad roll away from a wasted action.

Edit for more uses I thought of post posting.
