Hi guys! New playerish here. First time warlock player. I don't know a lot of dnd gods. So needing some help picking one for my patron.
My DM and I were discussing my background and both think the great old one works pretty good with it. Basically on the night of graduation for schoo, some friends and I went out to celebrate and well I got pass out drunk. Woke up the next morning with a brand on my arm and warlock powers and for the last 1 year or so I have been researching and looking for my patron to figure out what happened.
We both think a trickster and/or a God(goddess) that is basically bored and what to play thing to keep it entertained and cause some chaos.
Alignment for me is Chaotic Good. Race is a Tiefling.
Another things is DM did say it's okay to pick a Greek, Roman or Norse God(goddes) is possible too.
like Milestogo_24 said archfey is usually where trickery of that type exist.
But if you really like the GOO lock abilities then here my a suggestions: - if you don't mind your said patron crazy, then you have Nyarlathotep from the Cthulhu mythos (eldritch horror basically) which would fit your description.
- It's not common for gods to be patron for warlocks but it's not a fixed rule and you can do what you want on your table, some gods that may fit are Leira godess of illusions, Cyric the god of lies, The traveller (from ebberon), the Traveller (from critical role), Tharizdun (Though this one is more of an eldritch horror/great old one than a god).
Final note: most of the ones i suggested tend to be evil with exception to the traveller (both from ebberon and critical role) and Leira being neutral.

Born under the watch of something from the furthest corners of the far realms.... It knows all.... it sees all... and it asks: "What is it that you want to see?"... and my answer is... ALL"
Great old ones tend to be less gods and more deep dark entities. Though there is nothing stopping them from being gods. They tend to be foreign and alien in nature with unknown agendas. So if you are approaching this from a “this ancient thing just wants to observe and learn” then that could be right in there. If this is more an entertainment thing then archfey is probably a closer theme.
a list of what at least this site considers the great old ones is this
though honestly as long as your DM agrees then anything could qualify. You may not even need to name them if they are some forgotten ancient being that no one knows anymore. You could even work with your DM to custom make this thing to fit what you want. Maybe have some unique tells when it is getting involved like an increase in spiders, water turning dark, shadows getting longer or dark vision failing. Perhaps animals acting strangely

A trickster would probably fit the Archfey subclass better than the Great Old One.
Come participate in the Competition of the Finest Brews, Edition XXVIII?
My homebrew stuff:
Spells, Monsters, Magic Items, Feats, Subclasses.
I am an Archfey, but nobody seems to notice.

Cthulhu or Kthanid are perfect for a GOOlock
