I know there are homebrew Ancient Dragon patrons for the Warlock, and some of them are really good. There's a part of me that wonders though: WHY wasn't an official Ancient Dragon Patron for the Warlock included in Fizban's Treasury of Dragons??!?! It seems like a missed opportunity to me. I mean, they gave dragon based subclasses to the Ranger and the Monk, why not all the other character classes missing a dragon themed subclass? Especially the Warlock.
This could have been a subclass that's as diverse and interesting as the Genie. More so. Not only would you have a choice between a Chromatic, Metallic, or Gem dragon as your patron, you'd have a pick of which subtype of those main types was your patron and would get different spells and perks based on that. Kind of like with the Genies, but with greater variety. It seems a very natural choice for Dungeons and Dragons for Warlocks to have the option of a Dragon patron, yet it's not an official option.
I just have to wonder if it was something that was on the table when Fizban's was being put together or not? If it was, why did it get scrapped? If not, would there be a possibility of an official one showing up in future releases?
