I was wanting to make a western themed character that was a pact of the fiend warlock reborn that uses a gun and potentially can have like a manifested form of his demon that helps him in combat ( I was thinking echo knight fighter or pact of the chain imp). Any advice ?
That there sounds like a right interestin' character, pardner. I reckon if you took the Echo Knight Fighter fork of that river you'd be a multi your classin' from warlock. Am I reading you right, pilgrim? Unlessin' yer awillin' ta take a whole heapin' helpin' of levels in the ol' echo knight fighter, yer helpful fella ain't gotta lot of stayin' power. With only one or two HP (level in EKF, right?), the echo couldn't sustain a hit. Not that the 21 HP imp could do a whole heckuva lot better.
I gotta say, I LOVE the flavor of a reborn gunslinger with a ghostly echo of their former selves afollowin' 'em around helpin' 'em out iffin' they can. It's a better fit than that nasty old varmint, imp.
Keep us to date on how the character develops, ya hear!
Thanks for the tips partner, and yes sir I was planning to go with warlock first but now I'm pondering whether or not to start as a fighter. However I recon I might use this varmint as a BBEG for a western campaign I've been hankering to do. cause I love the idea of a vengeful zombie cowboy tearing up towns all across the west with the help of the field that resurrected him and the party is tasked with hunting him and his varmint down and putting an end to his vengeful gallivant thru the west.
And yes I was inspired by the song "Hell's coming with me" by poor man's poison. and make sure to check out my other western themed thread bout a homeberw subclass for the wizard the name is "spell slinger wizard homebrew help!" (made it on a different account). and thanks again partner for the advice and happy trails.
That's a rootin' tootin' gunfight at the OK Corral type campaign idea you've got there! And, what a villain and his outlaw gang to be run down by you're posse of deputized marshals! Sounds like good clean fun!
Seriously, keep us up to date on the progress. If you can't game, you should vicariously game, know what I mean?
thanks for the support partner however I might not be runin it for a while because I am just getting into DMing and am a bit of a green horn. so I want to take it slow at first with some official DND settings but I will work on it in the mean time and will keep up dating when I can.
Thanks for the Support and may the desert winds cary you some good fortune.
I'm in the same spot. I'm starting to DM more and needing to figure out how all the moving pieces fit together. So, I'm doing deeper dives into the character classes and species that I didn't play as much, and really deconstructing some of the written modules.
For a western-themed Pact of the Fiend Warlock, I’d suggest going Variant Human with the Gunner feat at level 1. This gives you firearm proficiency right away, and the Gunner feat also boosts your Dexterity for better attack rolls. For combat, you can use Pact of the Blade to summon your gun and apply Charisma for attack and damage rolls, making it fit thematically.
Or If you want your demon helper, Pact of the Chain with an imp could be a fun option for a small, powerful companion. This way, you get the best of both worlds: ranged combat with a gun and some fiendish flair!
while this may seeeeeem broken.. its not. Eldritch blast still out scales and out damages this build, but I could be ALOT of fun.
hope this helps 🧙♂️
