I've been a fan of all the patrons I've looked at, but I'm most excited to try an Undying Pact. Right now the base concept is to be a resurrected undead who's still cursed with negative energy. I figure the idea has a lot of story potential, and I can play it serious or comedic depending on the party I wind up in.
For me, it goo! I’m a fan of lovecraft cosmic horror and goo is as close as you can/could get. It would seem with some of the newer race/class builds the creators are dipping further into cults of cuthulhu etc. I can’t wait to see what come up with!
I like them all. Until yesterday I didn't like the archfey at all. I still have some doubts about it but I had to sit down and look at the spells, read them, and think about them before I realised they were actually okay. I just really, really, REALLY, have some issues with the archfey abilities. Fey Presence, Misty Escape, and dark delirium all have ONE use before needing a rest to recharge. I understand the 14th level ability being that way. But the archfey is built around charm magic (kinda) right? And being able to scare or charm within 10 ft of you is okay, but the duration of it is total....erhh... poooop? It's bad. It's meant for combat but why charm in combat for 2 rounds? Scare however, that can be useful at times I'll give it that. Misty escape is cool, buuuuut again. Short or long rest after use! Which means if you scared off 3 gnolls, but a 4th one shoots a shortbow and hits you. Both of your abilities you have from warlock is not coming back until a rest. And with the warlocks spell slot total (which I don't mind as much as other people do), makes it very hard to compete with some other patrons with passive abilities. Still, misty escape is pretty awesome when done right. Beguiling defenses is cool. It's okay. It's better than the draconic bloodline ability at 18th level (sorry if you like sorcerer. I just miss the good old 3e where sorcerers were cool and powerful). Lastly, Dark Delirium. A few problems with it in my humble opinion. Concentration is a VERY big draw back. When I first learned of it, looking at my newly gifted 5e handbook I thought it was a cool way to keep spellcasters from being the ultimate classes. But now, I like spells that aren't conc, because a lot of abilities you get from your class is conc. Which is really annoying. I know, I know. Balance. But still, being able to summon a duplicate of yourself, but not having say, shield of faith going is really sad. And having say, Hex going. Then you can use this feature. Also, it ends if it takes damage. Which makes it a little hard to do, but it would be so damn weird if it wasn't like that. I would say, you could ALSO use this feature with a "casting time" of 1 minute. Where you would be interacting or something similar with the creature, and then it is plunged into this misty realm. But with a much longer duration. This would make it useful when charming and deceiving the noble who you made fall in love with you even better. You could blackmail people, you could be way more fey like.
I'll try to do the others quicker sorry. Fiend. I love it. Only that the 6th level ability is soooooooo baaad. Not outright boring. A little... eh. It's just like: Dark One's Blessing: Suck the soul from you victims and infuse yourself with it's vigor. Fiendish Resilience: Arrows and bolts have a lesser effect on you, as you charge through the battle field. The cold breath of the dragon barely harm you as it freezes your newly hired elven ranger (Still a little bad. Could give you like two resistances or like immunity to like fire or poison like fiends have. Or maybe even allow wings. Maybe not wings I just really like wings and they take for ******* ever to get as a sorcerer. Sorry, I ramble). But your mighty fiend gifts you a d10! Woo! Maybe if you at say, the end of a long rest, choose one skill you're proficent in (or maybe any skill), and you can add a d10 to any check you make with that skill. Would be dope to add a 1d10 to stealth, sleight of hand, or intimidation. Hurl through hell is both awesome as flavor and as an ability. Mighty damage and worthy of getting after looking forward to it for 13 levels. The only beef I have with the fiend is NO WINGS. Mostly kidding. I love wings and would love to get them but, I do get some awesome abilities. It's just a personal thing.
Oh man. Yeah. So much better than the last one. Sorry. If you're still here. Thank you.
Hexblade. It's cool. Love the charisma to damage. Else, it sucks. I like it, I have made many character concepts with it. But it does not rival the eldritch blast damage. And it should. More even. Because you are not 120 ft away when swinging your sword. Even with hex and hexblade curse, eldritch blast would still out do the damage. So you have to hope that you in around 15 levels get a sword that deals around 17 dmg per swing. So, I like the idea. I like the concept. And I like the spells. But the abilities you get at 6th, 10th and 14th level arenn't that good. And hexblade's curse is nice. But I would like something that makes it worthy of using a sword or spear or whatever. Instead of eldritch blast.
Celestial is cool too. Proves that clerics aren't only healers. You can dish out nice healing. And the spells are also good. Except flamestrike. That spell is still one level too high. The damage to radiant and fire makes it really interesting to cast other spells. And healing as a bonus action gives the warlock something that even clerics and bards aren't good at. Yeah I know, healing word. But it's still a 1d4+spell casting mod. Okay. While it is only d6's. It is still very cool. Undying... I haven't read up on it too much and from what I can see it is the usual death save abilities. They are cool and useful but I like to be able to use my abilities before I die. Not as I die. But else, it's cool. Great old one has telepathy, which is VERY awesome. But it's abilities are very.. aboleth like. And the have a servant thing gets weird at times. And entropic shield is not that good. Light domain has it's flares which are better and can be done more than once per rest. But it's cool. It has some nice spells, and it allows for a very pupeteer like build for a character.
Sorry for the long rant. I do like warlock, though tbh I haven't played them enough to give them a prober review. This is all taken from 97% reading. This is my personal opinion, you are free to disagree and tell me but, be friendly. No need to fight over it. ^^ Thanks for reading the entire thing!
Celestial. I have a Unicorn-Lord. Sparkling and Pink 😁

Undying is my pick since I enjoy the idea of making a pact with a lich for the secret of long life.
