For more consistency, at low levels using scrolls for False Life and/or Armor of Agathys helps. I would advice these as they promote damage and survivability. At higher levels the scroll you could make is Backlash, but it is expensive.
I agree that my advice involves planning to play it optimally, but you could also just have False Life cast early in the day, and cast Agathys once you are in combat. Then you have two more slots to use. Which could be a Summon Fey in round two (or round one instead of Agathys). Then you have one slot reft for Backlash or Eldritch Smite. If you are Archfey you also have one use of Beguiling Defenses to protect Agathys.
PAM can be good with Goliath Hill Giant ancestry. But I would also recommend Great Weapon Master.
I would also recommend to keep a few Mirror Image scrolls if the going gets tough.
If you want an interesting build with Armor of Agathys, the Dungeon Dudes on YouTube have a video that mixes Wild Heart Barbarian with Fiend Warlock, to get a Heavy Weapon using Raging Bladelock that combines Armor of Agathys with eventual resistance to all damage types to really stretch those temporary hit points. It's a pretty interesting build.
I just have 2024 PHB, but I think true stike agonizing blast works well. multiclassing into war cleiric also works. I can say from expirience it is alot of fun to both role play and fight.

If you do this with Celestial Warlock it is particularly good, thanks to their Radiant Soul ability at level 6.
Level 6: Radiant Soul
Your link to your patron allows you to serve as a conduit for radiant energy. You have Resistance to Radiant damage. Once per turn, when a spell you cast deals Radiant or Fire damage, you can add your Charisma modifier to that spell’s damage against one of the spell’s targets.
True Strike is radiant damage, so with Agonizing Blast and Radiant Soul, you will get to add your Charisma modifier to the weapon damage three times. At level 6 that little Shortsword is now doing 2d6+12 radiant damage with True Strike (assuming +4 charisma mod).
and if you have a 16 at the beginging, by that point you probably have a plus 5 modifier and with pact of the blade you can have a great sword. end result of damge at level 6 is 3d6+15

hello there! I have too many ideas. I love splatoon and obssess over any minmax. I'm sorry if anything I post is unkind or offends you.
@Adam: Do keep in mind that Greatsword has the Heavy property and requires 13+ STR for you not to attack with DisADV. STR is generally a really bad attribute for the Warlock - but starting off level 1 as Fighter and then multiclass is definitely a very solid choice to acquire Heavy Armor training to get use out of your STR investment. If you go with the Extra Attack route from Thirsting/Devouring Blade, it can be followed up with investing in the Great Weapon Master feat or Polearm Master feat to add damage. Both feats require the use of the Attack action and doesn't synergize with using True Strike. As such if you want to stay with True Strike, I would advice to not invest in STR and use a Light Crossbow (works with True Strike) to stay at range or either a Spear/Quarterstaff using two hands for the 1d8 weapon die or using Pact of the Blade to acquire a Longsword/Warhammer/War Pick for the Versatile 1d10 weapon die when used two handed.
@Sequilonis: Seeing how Warlock doesn't have a way to combine cantrip-casting with taking the Attack action, you're weighing between using True Strike (using a Longsword's versatile d10 weapon die with Pact of the Blade and Agonizing Blast) or using Extra Attack (with PotB and Thirsting Blade and later on Devouring Blade) or using Eldritch Blast (with AB).
At lvl 6: True Strike can net us: [ 1d10 + 3x 4 CHA + 1d6 + 1 Wep bonus ~ 22 avg. dmg. ] for 22 avg. DPR Thirsting Blade: 2x attacks of [ 1d10 + 4 CHA + 1 Wep bonus ~ 10.5 avg. dmg. ] for 21 avg. DPR Eldritch Blast: 2x beams of [ 1d10 + 4 CHA ~ 9.5 avg. dmg. ] for 19 avg. DPR
At lvl 12: True Strike: [ 1d10 + 3x 5 CHA + 2d6 + 2 Wep bonus ~ 29.5 avg. dmg ] for 29.5 avg. DPR Devouring Blade: 3x attacks of [ 1d10 + 5 CHA + 2 Wep bonus ~ 12.5 avg. dmg. ] for 37.5 avg. DPR Eldritch Blast: 3x beams of [ 1d10 + 5 CHA ~ 10.5 avg. dmg. ] for 31.5 avg. DPR
In this scenario True Strike assumes the benefit of the Celestial Warlock's Radiant Soul feature, whilst the two others don't have direct subclass DPR increases. Eldritch Blast have the benefit of being a ranged attack and have a handful of upgrades to add pushing, pulling, and slowing effects to its beams. This also means the safety of staying at range. True Strike technically doesn't need to be used with a melee weapon, so you could opt for attacking with a Light Crossbow for the 1d8 weapon die at 80/320 ft. range. As for Bladelocks, I think there are other subclasses and Invocations that you would rather pick to increase your survivability whilst on the frontlines.

I'll take the 13 strength requirment, and the fighter is a good Idea. add armor of agathys and you just made a really good tank. if you want you can also quicken true strike for even more damage or add GWM.

If you dip and get fighter and you start at low levels, when do you get fighter? If you start below level 5 you really need to get 5 levels of warlock in first. Otherwise access to multiple attacks and other Warlock features is prolonged. You are behind the curve of your fellow PCs. If you start level 6 or later it is not so bad to dip.

The important thing to remember here is that you only get heavy armor training from the Fighter class if you start as a Fighter; you don't get it if you multiclass into it later. If heavy armor is a key part of the build you're going for, you need that first level to be in Fighter, not Warlock.

Yup, that'll work too, though it means you need your Wisdom to be at least 13, in addition to still needing Strength to be at least 13 for the Heavy weapons.
The trick with multiclassing a warlock is 2 levels of warlock gets you EB+AB+Hex. You have reasonable damage with those three for the rest of your career. You can take a few levels of fighter or something else and you still do fine. Once you get 5th level in warlock you go back to fighting with weapons.
