Trying to figure out if there's a way to create a new Pact Boon for Warlocks. Items wont work for it, and when I go into Create Subclass, it only lets me add a new Otherworldly Patron. Any insight on what I can do here?
Warlocks are not my expert area, but I think that the best way to handle this currently is to create a special feat to add what you're after.
Feats can be added to characters via the character sheet, outside of standard progression, and are typically a good way of adding further abilities.
It's not currently possible to add pact boons in such a way that they can be selected as part of the warlock class though, which is probably what you're after.
I never really played warlock in a session before but I do believe their is a way just tricky unless looking at the char sheet on the feats or such or doing the homebrew section?
It could work. The problem comes in the Evocations because there are some that are given through the boon, and they add additional effects. It is possible to do in the Notes section, it's just a bit awkward to access compared to just having it on the sheet though. Hopefully we see this added in the future to avoid clutter.
Think of what is a pact boon first? it's a gift from your patron for your loyalty to it. Current ones are a Tome to give you further more knowledge and spells, a weapon to aid you in combat or a pet as an assistant to your needs. What other gifts could be given? probably a body part with special effects? I've been grinding my brain for a while to find out but nothing really comes to mind. If anything an item seem to be the closest.

I've got an idea for a sentient being to live within you and grant you stronger natural armor by enveloping you in it's essence and granting abilities based on your Patron. It's inspired by Venom who's been one of my favorite characters in fiction since I was a kid.
It's made to be the defensive Boon. We have a knowledge/spellcasting boon, a healing/support boon, and a combat boon. We don't however have an armored or strictly defensive boon. Hopefully I get to share this with the world sometime in the near future.

Might not be a good idea for the being to "live" within the character as it might cause complications such as ehat if the character dies or detection stuff. But the idea is still cool.

For anyone who is wondering about this still - I created a homebrew pact as a class feature that unlocks at level 3, and then when the character hits level 3 the pact will automatically be added to the character sheet, but just don't select a pact from the existing dropdown.
It's a bit ugly, but it works - hopefully support for this gets added at some point in the future, but this is the workaround I'll be using for now.

I'm working on a similar homebrew but based more on the Hellspawn Symbiote from Spawn and it would be a full patron with built in pact boon. I like the Venom angle too though. Good luck on your homebrew!
You'll have to go with trial and error my friend. Just post your homebrew for others to review.

Homebrew support definitely has taken a back seat to items that potentially generate new revenue. I mean I get it but still makes me sad that Warlocks get no love lol.
one pact i saw in a noncore book is pact of the trigger that gives some cool features with casting spells and new invocations. Monkey dm on youtube created it and i was trying to recreate it because the book isnt on dnd beyond.

I didn’t even think about that! Good solution

I found a Nightmare Before Christmas warlock patron that gives the pact boon where you can summon a Will-o'-wisp.
