I have an Adventurers League character (this is relevant because I can rebuild at will until 5th level and because I have to abide by the PHB+1 rule) who is currently a 3rd level Celestial Warlock. I'm thinking of rebuilding him so that his first level is in Cleric (for the medium armor proficiency). And at some point I might put a second level in Cleric for the Channel Divinity.
I had a couple of questions about this idea.
1. What would be a good domain choice (PHB or XGE only) in terms of thematic and mechanical synergy with the Celestial patron? Life seems like an obvious choice. Light seems almost as obvious. I'm actually kind of thinking of going Grave though.
2. Would it be worth taking a second level in Cleric to get Channel Divinity? That's about as far as I would want to go.
3. If I'm only taking 1-2 Cleric levels, is a 14 WIS good enough from an optimization standpoint, or should I push it to 16? Is the benefit of a 16 WIS worth sacrificing other ability scores like DEX/CON? (assume I am maxing out CHA)
4. Or is all of this a horrible idea that I should scrap in favor of taking levels in Divine Soul Sorcerer instead?
You want the Tempest Domain. First of all, you get Heavy Armor. At 2nd level, Channel Divinity lets you maximize Thunder and Lightning spells, of which the Warlock has enough to justify this. If you've got the Tome Pact, pick up Thunderclap, Shocking Grasp, and Booming Blade cantrips. You *might* want Witch Bolt but even maximized it's still not great. Shatter is one of your 2nd level picks. Thunder Step at 3rd level.

It's possible to play a decent multiclass cleric with only 13 Wisdom and a single level in cleric, as long as you limit your cleric spells to non-attack/non-save spells (cure wounds, divine shield, purify food and water etc) and have a domain which benefits your other class. Also, since so many domains give heavy armor at level 1, you could stay warlock as your first class if you prefer the warlock saving throw/proficiency list.
Good Domains for a single level in cleric are Arcana (magic missile has no attack roll and you can pick utility cantrips), Forge (heavy armor and on-demand +1 magic buff), Grave (healing buff and some undead detection), Knowledge (skill monkey), Life (heavy armor and healing buff), and Trickery (stealth buff but bad domain spells).
If you're going up to level 2 you'll most often want decent Wisdom (at least 14) because you want your Channel Divinity to be effective. And at 2nd level Tempest or Light might be the best choices for an aggressive caster, but War could also be great for a blade pact warlock.

The nice thing about Channel Divinity for the Tempest Domain is that it doesn't specify cleric spells; you could use it to maximize a warlock spell that does lightning or thunder damage and not worry about your wisdom score.

After that I'm not sure...

I am one with the Force. The Force is with me.
