Im interested in a comparison of dips for a Hexblade, with a 8/14/16/14/10/16 going into level 6. They are played fairly melee currently but several dip options are being considered.
Split dip - 1 fighter with 2 of wiz or Sorc or bard
Split dip - 2 fighter with 1 of wiz or sorc or bard
Pure war wizard, swords bard or sorcerer
The 2nd question is when (and if option 1) what order to take the classes in?
First question. Why do you want to dip at all? What's the goal or purpose that you're trying to reach? Do you want more survivability? Then consider the fighter for heavy armor prof & even 2nd level for action surge.
Do you want more spell slots? Take sorc. Do you want more utility? Take bard.. I dont recommend taking wiz cuz the stats dont synergize but again, what are you trying to achieve? The classes in 5e are pretty balanced to do what you need to do going full & taking some feats.. unless you're trying to do something specific why bother multiclassing in the first place?
(I'm not saying dont do it, but in order to figure what to take you should vocalize your reasonings first.. 1, to help us help you what to really take and 2, for you to realize if it's something even worth doing... I was in the same boat.. and after playing a few levels I dont know if it's the best course of action)

What do you reckon?

I went to a party where there was wizard dip....
delicious!!
also multiclassing to fighter does not give heavy armour.
Jesus Saves!... Everyone else takes damage.
Ah that's right. I forgot. You need fighter first.
