Ok, so I had a few ideas for a hexblade warlock I wanted to try out, but I'm unsure as to how to work their patron into it. I understand that Jeremy Crawford has officially said that your patron is not a sentient weapon, but rather they are just some otherworldly being known for creating powerful weapons. I think that makes a lot more sense, but truth be told I struggle to think of cool patron ideas for this pact. Any help would be appreciated.

It's ok Ranger, you'll always be cool to me.. Unless druid gets another use for its wild shape charges.
You really can go anywhere you want to with the Patron as long as the DM gives you a Thumbs up.
I have played a Hexblade and loved it and I have DM'd for a hexblade and found that DMing for one to be a great joy. The trick I did was that when DMing for a hexblade I would often have the Warlock catch a glimpse of himself as a reflection in his blade winking at him or encouraging him to kill his foe, often speaking to him in his reflection with his own face, no one else in the group could see these interactions at all and didn't really understand the hexblade's powers or where he was summoning this weapon from every time they got into a battle. These sorts of flavorful interactions were very fun for the both of us since he was a CN character, the Patron basically was an extra planar being looking to sow chaos through the world by putting this weapon in the hands of someone who wouldn't really think twice about using it.
The player would also have blackout sleeps and sleep doodle on paper stick figure battles with him at the center of the fight destroying entire armies with his patron's weapon. Too bad he left the group before it could really get interesting.
Hexblade patrons are associated with the Shadowfell, Death, and the dark arts of hexing and curse-bringing. I would use these themes to develop your patron.
A few ideas:
Raven Queen. Or another powerful entity from the Shadowfell like an ancient Shadow Dragon, Shadow Demon or Night Hag.
A powerful dead or undead being. The Shadowfell is populated with dead creatures such as ghosts, specters, and other undead, so you could choose a powerful lich, vampire or restless spirit of an Archmage.
The Dark Powers—mysterious godlike entities that created the Demiplane of Dread in the Shadowfell.
A Darklord, like Strahd von Zarovich, from the Demiplane of Dread.
A powerful Hag like Baba Yaga or her daughter Iggwilv. These would be great patrons if you choose Pact of the Chain.
Charon, the Boatman of the River Styx. Technically, Charon is a fiend but he could work well as a Hexblade Patron who grants power in return for souls.
The Vestige of a Dead God that haunts the showdown realm.
Whatever you pick, make it creative! I see too many Hexblade backstories that go something like this "my Patron is a magical sword that I inherited from my Grandpappy".
what my DM did was just have my patron imbue his power into the blade for the effect of the hexblade. i find it a lot better then having a sentient weapon for role play purposes and its a lot more fun to have a patron to do that and it can also create a aspect of fear of trying not to piss off your patron or he or she might take the power away. thats just what my DM does and it seems to work the best role play wise. I have my own homebrew patron and it is the coolest one i have seen. hes name is Intaros, under lord of the fey wild, he is part of the archfey pact put my dm allowed me to have parts the the extended spell list to my hexblade to keep it authentic with the fey theme. Intaros looks like a giant ent with a giant double bladed axe for his right arm. he does live in the plan of abbadon with all the other evil patrons but he doesn't usually have evil pacts but he will sometimes. so he is quite versatile in role play aspects too. so i hope this helps.

A powerful Dwarven Mage Smith?
