Hi! I'm creating this thread because I have trouble coming up with a patron (for one of my players, who wants to be kept in the dark about this), and I thought maybe there are other people in this pickle as well.
The idea behind this thread is to state what kind of agreement you struck with the patron, and for other people to suggest patrons who would suit that deal.
I'll go first: I was a student of an alchemical college when an unknown group invaded my school and killed everybody inside before blowing up the remains. My patron visited me when I was unconsious, and promised me both knowledge and power to exact my vengeance upon the ones who came between me and my studies.
I'd pick one of the lost Whispering Children, the twenty-two children of Oghma (The Lord of Knowledge) who were transformed into paintings by Cyric, the Prince of Lies. Each of the Whispering Children used to specialize in a field of expertise, and yours could be the one who dedicated himself / herself to Alchemy.
Or just go with Asmodeus, really, because Knowledge is also his domain.
I play a Half Elven Feylock who isn't sure whom his patron is. He believe it to be Sehanine Moonbow, but as a Seldarine, does she have an Archfey as an intercessor? I'm letting the DM work with it. My character's grandfather is Eladrin, and didn't approve of his human father. She's the goddess of dreams, and she appears in dreams and in his Grimoire. If Knowledge like Oghma's is direct, then Sehanine's is subtle - the subconscious and the dreamstate communication. Not all communication and knowledge need be direct. Some of it is in the clue, the dream, the guise, that which you notice only in the corner of your eye... how subtle are you going for? Or is this pure scientia gratis scientiae ?

Io's Grace, I love that idea 😱 are they fiends, though?

They could easily be Celestial, Hexblade or Undying, but as a DM you can comfortably make them work with anything.
