so im a level 3 hexblade and a level 3 shadowmagic sorcerer. and im conflicted on whether i want to take the rest of my levels in sorcerer, or hexblade?
What's your character's story? What's your end goal? Optimizers will tell you that 3 Warlock / 17 Sorcerer is a very powerful character, especially for nova damage - but does it give you the things you're looking for? What are you looking for?
It’s simple: Do you want to play a warlock or sorcerer? You are essentially back to Level 1. Sorlock is a super powerful and very common build. Warlock is going to be more difficult because you’ll be lagging behind in your Pact Magic.
I'd agree with all the sentiments above. Mathematically, Hexblades are one of the weakest 'warrior' classes in 5e (which is super sad because... they're awesome). In RAW (rules as written), they're pretty much best to dip into for a few levels, and then leave entirely. Whether your other 17 or so levels are in Paladin, Sorcerer, Thief, Fighter, etc. is really up to you, but they offer so little as they level up, they are very much not worth investing in past level 5 or so (and honestly, level 3 gives you all you need and more).
I personally think that all this is true and believe you could at least consider other dips, like fighter 2 or rouge 2 in order to help with your build and make your choice easier.

that really depends on what you want for your character.. I'd go for Sorc because shadow step is awesome
Sorc all the way :)

well, 4/4 gets you 2 ASIs, 2 Feats, or one of each...
After that, sounds like Sorcerer gives you the best bang for your buck.
