So my main character in my campaign is, as you've probably guessed, a hexblade sorcerer (dragon bloodline) and very much invested in melee spells. Booming Blade, Frostwind Blade (Eleminster's Guide to Magic), shocking grasp. With the hexblade he has access to better weapons and armor (though with his already high dex and 13 base AC from the dragon sorc he hasn't needed it) he's pretty good at holding his own. Metamagic is incredibly helpful, especially as he gets higher in level and his cantrips like those mentioned above get stronger.
At the moment he's only level 4 (3 sorc/1 warlock) and for his next level I plan to bump sorc to 4 and invest in war magic, but from there I'm stuck on where I want to go. Part of me wants to just go pure warlock, get all the fun effects of the hexblade and never look back, the other part wants more spell slots and sorc points. Storywise it can go either way.
And yes I know, melee spellcasters aren't as strong as true spellcasters or martial spellcaster classes like the Paladin, this just fits his theme more as a character.
Warlock 14/sorcerer 5 will give you at-will Hexblade's Curse and the ability to convert a Pact Magic spell slot into 5 sorcery points (which you can use to augment your warlock spells), among other things (may I recommend Thirsting Blade and Lifedrinker as two of your Eldritch Invocations?) Then you have to choose between +Cha to your Draconic Ancestry damage type and an 8th-level Mystic Arcanum.
