Here's a multiclass combo I just "brewed" up. Wizard (any arcane tradition) and "drizzle" 3 levels of Alchemist Artificer into the "cauldron." You get to create Experimental Elixirs on full spellcasting progression. From a few levels in artificer, you get spells like cure wounds and faerie fire, that wizards can't already learn. You also get healing word from the Alchemist subclass automatically prepared spells. Cure Wounds can be cast through your familiar, and your familar can deliver experimental elixirs to where their needed around a messy and hectic battlefield.
Also, you get Infusions, which is probably the main reason people multiclass into artificer. Enhanced Arcane Focus and Mind Sharpener are probably your best options, but you should also take Enhanced Defense or Enhanced Weapon so you can empower your allies. Replicate Magic Item is a solid choice too. Homunculus Servant is redundant, as you have a familiar. Generally, the main feature you'll get from artificer is being able to create larger quantities of Experimental Elixirs, thanks to your full spellcasting progression and your Arcane Recovery feature.
Don't forget that artificer and wizard both rely on Intelligence for their spellcasting and class features, so the cost of multiclassing is fairly low. The main thing you will be giving up is your wizard spellcasting progression, so consider if Infusions and Experimental Elixirs is worth giving up a few levels in wizard.
