You can easily add any found spells to your own Spellbook. You are still limited to the number of spells you may prepare(Level + INT modifier), regardless of how many spells you “know” I.e. are contained in your Spellbook.
Go to the “Spells” page on you character sheet on the D&D Beyond site, and hit the “Manage Spells” button. Then hit the “Add Spells” tab, and hit the “Learn” button on whatever new spells you are copying into your Spellbook. Note: this typically costs 50GP and takes 2 hours per spell level copied, although some DMs handwave this.
Thanks, it doesn't seem to work for adding extra cantrips Also the spellbook I found contains a fourth level spell which I can't cast yet but would like to record. Also there is a custom spell I'd like to add (Fey Circle) but can't add it?
You don’t really have cantrips in your spellbook…historically you just knew however many you knew per your Wizard level. With the new optional third level ability “Cantrip Formulas” from TCoE, you basically have access to ALL of the Wizard cantrips, available to you in your spellbook. You can still only prepare as many as your level permits, but you can swap one out for any other cantrip with with a long rest.
Unfortunately, you cannot copy a spell into your spellbook that is of a higher level than you can cast. Just hang on to the found spellbook until you can. Remember, unlike copying from scrolls, spells do not disappear out of a spellbook when you copy them into your own book. When you are done copying what you want from the found spellbook, you can always sell it.
Regarding the custom spell, providing it is of a level you can cast, you or your DM would have to create the spell using the Homebrew tools on D&D Beyond, then allow homebrew content on your character sheet(there is a toggle on the character editor that enables homebrew), then you can add it to your spells known.
Great advice!!! My character has also acquired the ability to cast a couple of spells innately rather than needing to prepare them, is there a way to include them on the main spell page as e.g. use once per day, rather than needing to have been prepared for casting?
I can't see Dragon's Breath or Leomund's Tiny Hut on my spell choice list when I'm trying to add them, but guess this might be a purchasing issue if this module of DnD Beyond hasn't been purchased?
Again, if your innate Spellcasting is from a published feat(Magic Initiate, Fey-Touched, etc), the relevant spells should automatically be added to your “prepared” spells, with the ability to cast once per long rest when you add the feat to your character. If your innate Spellcasting is derived from a non-official source, again, you or your DM will need to homebrew a feat, perhaps using one of the aforementioned feats as a template.
Leomunds Tiny Hut is also referred to as just Tiny Hut in the basic rules. Dragon’s Breath is from Xanathar’s Guide to everything, so if you haven’t purchased or have access to via sharing by your DM on D&D Beyond, that spell won’t be available. Note: you can purchase individual spells from Xanathar’s for $1.99 if you don’t want to buy the whole book.
Great knowledge, many thanks for your help!!! If you are ever looking for a player let me know, it really sounds like you know your stuff and would be a brilliant DM :)
Although I occasionally DM, I mostly enjoy playing. I am fortunate to have a large group of good friends that have been playing tabletop RPGs together for over 25 years.
My character is a Barbarian lvl 3 with a fire elemental thing and I multiclassed into a paladin, why cant I see my spells page?
Firstly why are you asking a question about a Barbarian Paladin multiclass in a Wizard class forum? Secondly why did you necro a thread that's over a year old instead of starting a new thread? Finally in response to your question do you have at least two levels in Paladin? Paladins require at least two levels to gain access to spellcasting.

Are you adding them to your spellbook, or trying to prepare them? Are the spells of a level you can learn?

Any time an unfathomably powerful entity sweeps in and offers godlike rewards in return for just a few teensy favors, it’s a scam. Unless it’s me. I’d never lie to you, reader dearest.

Is there any way to add spells over and above those allowed level by level, on DnD Beyond?

You just wrote what i thinked about.
I’m 2 fighter, 1 wizard and will go the rest wizard. I thought I noticed something during a game.
if I find a spell and have time and gold, I should be able
to record it as such. On dnd beyond I can’t take any extra spells which isn’t RAW. It’s don’t understand
