So at level 1 with Human variant i get a feat. I chose mage initiate (cleric) my question is does the spell I chose (cure wounds) cost a spell slot or is it just a feat spell I can use once a day?
It's a Feat spell you can use once a day and doesn't cost you a spell slot.

"A rightful place awaits you in the Realms Above, in the Land of the Great Light. Come in peace, and live beneath the sun again, where trees and flowers grow."
— The message of Eilistraee to all decent drow.
"Run thy sword across my chains, Silver Lady, that I may join your dance.”
As a note remember when you cast a the Cleric spells (leveled and cantrip) they are still cast off of your Wisdom. If you are a Wizard and you take Magic Initiate (Wizard), then it gets a little weirder. The spell is adds it as a permanent spell known and you can use the slot on any spell. Plus who doesn't want more cantrips? https://media.wizards.com/2015/downloads/dnd/SA_Compendium_1.01.pdf
