So I just ran my first session tonight. I had an absolute blast lol. I had a question about mage Armor though and how it works with dnd beyond. So I have an ac of 14 normally. +4 dex modifyer. If I cast mage armor it should take me to ac 17 or am I misunderstanding the spell. It should make my base ac 13 + dex (4) so 17? But after I cast it on dndbeyond it didn't change my AC on the top of my character sheet. Is that a bug or am I misunderstanding?
You are indeed correct. It should bump your AC to 17.
However, DnD Beyond doesn't have that kind of support with it's current character sheet for casting spells, wild shapes, barbarian rage. You can manually change it, or grab a plus 1 studded leather and equip that as a place holder for your mage armor.
I made homebrew "items" both for my Bladesong (+10 movement, +Int modifier to AC) and Shield; I equip those in the DND Beyond sheet when they're active and it adjusts my stats (when both are active I have an AC of 20). That's the best workaround I've found. They're still working on implementing temporary bonuses (from spells, class abilities, etc.) into the interface.

In the "New" D&D Beyond you can go to the "Combat" area of the character sheet and click on the shield.
Over to the right you'll see your armor broken down with the base of 10 and your DEX modifier of +4.
There is a link "Customize" and under there it says "Override Base Armor + DEX"
Bump that up from a base of 10 to a base of 13 and name it "Mage Armor" and you should see your AC bumped up.
Make sense?

Ooh! I like that solution. I'm going to have to do that for my Arcane Trickster/Bladesinger.
