I'm looking at combing a fighter+wizard=eldritch knight+wizard, yeah I will miss a few levels, and my race will be warforge. Is their any videos, or discussion on that combination?
While blade singer is okay. I have a odd build for ya. I like the idea of a wizard who casts other spells than magic missile and mage armor. I understand both, and I'll probably be the same at some point. But I have both seen one, currently having one in the party, and being DM for one. So I'm so exicted that there is hope for the daring wizards!
If you're using the ****e- I mean the well done caculated point by system in the PHB I would recommend elf, half elf, human, or if ya feeling real dangerous, tiefling (dispater or asmodeous heritage). Dex is gonna be prime for ya. I'm gonna go with moon elf (high elf in the PHB) Because it gives +1 int, and proficency in several weapons. Most importantly. Shortswords. After one level of wizard. Maybe a few more. You take 1 level of fighter. Take the two weapon fighting style and that's all. I would help you a lot with HP if you were to be a 1st lvl fighter to start of with, simpyl for the HP bonus. If your DM has more than half a brain (unlike mine) you can also use armor. Though you might be sticking to either chain shirts or studded leather armor, as your dex is gonna be your main focus. Str is not needed. But don't go lower than a 7 (you can have a 6, but I would recommend it :P). Dex is gonna be top 1st stat of the year. Yes yes, wizards need int! But you're no ordinary wizard! Con, I would keep at a simpel 14. Anthing lower will tenfold the difficulty. So watch out if going with less than +2. Hope for a 16. But that 16 is needed in INT. You are still a wizard. So int should be number 2 stat. A simple 16 is good. 14 is the lowest I would recommend. Because at that point you would be better of as an eldritch knight. Anyway, Wisdom and charisma is basically character needs. So do what you wish with them
At 4th level you have 4 choices. +2 in dex, con or int. Or a feat. Tough is a good choice, but you will get much more out of it at leve 12. Yes yes, it gives the same bonuses but 8 hp extra isn't that good. The feat is a little to underwelming in my humble opinion, but it gives +2 health each level. Meaning with a 14 con you get +4 health each level. And if your DM is kind, you can reroll 1's. So you get a minimum of 6 hp per level. Which is a max for a wizard without con nor tough. And they usually have sisters nicknamed "Backup".
5th level is where this build is at it's peak. You want to take haste, perhaps slow for enemies at times. But haste is gonna be THE spell you are gonna want. It is the life of you and your build. Not only a +2 AC and some other shit. You get. An extra action to attack. Meaning you get 3 attacks. You can try to get hex as well, and get 1d6 necrotic dmg to each attack sure. Totaling to 3d6+9 (with a 16/17 dex.) or 3d6+12 piercing damage (with 18/19 dex). Plus an additional 3d6 necrotic damage. A cleric with shield of faith is gonna be a life saver for ya. So sleeping with the cleric is high recommended. Looking rough? Use the hasted action to disengage (if you DM let's you use it before you regular action), use action to either dash, or cast a defensive (or even ranged offensive) spell. You can go level 5 fighter and get 4 attacks. But that's a total level of 10. So, that is far far FAR away. Unless you play for several hours, multiple days a week of course.
While blade singer is okay. I have a odd build for ya.

Umm.... question for ya. You say you bladesinger is okay, and proposing a different build... but you're offering suggestions that are staples for bladesingers with a level 1 fighter dip. If you don't think that this is a bladesinger build, what subclass are you suggesting?
Also, Hex is not very workable in this build - both Haste and Hex are Concentration spells, and you've got lots of competition for your bonus action (swing a sword versus moving the Hex to a new target).
Most importantly. Shortswords. After one level of wizard. Maybe a few more. You take 1 level of fighter. Take the two weapon fighting style and that's all. You can use armor. Multiclassing rules, Proficiency section. Multiclassing into Fighter grants you the following - Light armor, medium armor, shields, simple weapons, martial weapons. If you're proficient, there's no issue with armor and spellcasting. There's no half-a-brain involved, just following the rules as written.
As a DM, I would have more of an issue with dual wielding while trying to use somatic gestures; people that try to abuse the drop-cast-pick up exploit annoy me.
By far the biggest problem with Daergiel's build is that you're holding weapons in both hands, and you're relying heavily on maintaining concentration on a spell while being in melee range, but he somehow doesn't recommend the war caster feat. That makes his suggestion very unique, but also a very flawed suggestion and not very much fun to play.
And as Mephista said, multi-classing into Fighter gives you Light and Medium armor proficiency. If your DM allows multi-classing, he should allow a multi-class Wizard Fighter to wear armor. If he doesn't, just direct him to read the PHB's section on multi-classing.
Simple partial solution for the drop-cast-pickup exploit:
If you drop a weapon without using your object interaction, you don't control where it lands. You roll a D6, and it lands anywhere from 5ft to 30ft away from you in the direction of your last movement. And of course, if an enemy moves to where your weapon is on their turn, they can use their object interaction to interact with your weapon.
I think it's a useful house rule (you can of course modify it by changing the D6 to a D4 or using a D10 to determine the direction, or something like that)
I would say a better solution is to say somatic components of a spell take up your "interact with an object" tandum action. you can't very well pick up a sword with yer jazz hands going off like Broadway finish!
and I still think a dwarf abjuration wizard is the best melee wiz, if ever a melee wiz there wuz
I like the Rock Gnome / Forest Gnome for Melee Wizard. If you start with a 1 level dip in Fighter (for a fighting style, armor proficiency, weapon proficiency, and Constitution save proficiency) and then do a Dex based Wizard, you'll literally have every single save covered. You'll have proficiency in Strength and Constitution saves, you'll have your best or 2nd best stat as Dexterity, and you'll have advantage on Wis, Int, and Cha saves against magic.
I agree about Abjuration Wizard, that would be my choice, too.
Edit: And how could I forget ... Rock Gnome and Forest Gnome both get the +2 Int of course.
I recently did a Melee Wizard build I'm pretty fond of. The vid walkthrough of the build isn't public until Monday, but I suppose a sneak-peak wouldn't be a problem.

Well my DM (and I) have been playing 3e for the most part. And the thought of wizards and sorcerers in armor frighteneds him. It was a personal outburst that I should've have included. I would recommend Abjuration. Yes, a lot of this works for bladesingers as well. but I was mostly trying to make a build that didn't need to be a bladesinger. Hex and haste was an oversight on my part. If you take War Caster you don't need to have one hand free for somatic components. Then the only problem is material.
If you don't like wizards dropping their weapons, casting and then taking it again then say you can drop it as a free action. But picking it up is either, half or whole move, a bonus action or something like that. The original rules would probably consider it the "use an object" action. But opening a door in my humble opinion does not take your full actions. I like to allow my players to use their actions a little more freely. At the expense of other factors of course. You can turn a door nob and kick open a door as say, 20 ft of movement. But everyone within the house and 120 ft or so around it would hear a door or at least something loudly banging. So you could easily say that dropping a sword, finding a component (or focus), somatic components and putting the component back, after aiming the spell, and then picking up the sword, is a little more than 2 seconds :P.
Bladesingers are restricted to elves and half-elves, so I would recommend being a high elf for obvious reasons. If you aren't interested in being a bladesinger, be an abjurer wizard who uses booming blade constantly, with a high dex(or maybe strength) and be a githyanki( if going for strength, medium armor prof included as well as some weapon proficiencies)or high elf(for dex build, weapon proficiencies involved).
My evoker wizard gnome is part of a 5 character party in which only one character wants to be in the first rank. The rest of us want to be second rank, so we four are always trying unsuccessfully to hide behind the one. My wizard finds herself surrounded more often than she'd like, so she ends up being a melee wizard. The Shield spell plus a 16 Dexterity and 14 Constitution help her a lot. Sculpt Spells allows her to blast surrounding hordes while protecting her friends. She has come to enjoy being in the thick of melee in fact.
Does a Wizard tank work with PHB only? I was thinking Abjuration with a 1 level dip into Cleric for proficiency in Heavy Armor and War Domain. But I'm worried there just isn't enough in the PHB for this to work.

War Domain Cleric is a poor choice for a one level dip. Their War Priest ability is quite weak. Life Domain or Light Domain is better (Light Domain is especially useful if you don't have dark vision because it gives you the Light cantrip. Life Domain makes Vampiric Touch a lot more powerful.
But it's probably better to do Fighter with Defense Fighting style and Second Wind. If you start off with Fighter, you get proficiency in Constitution Saves, and proficiency in Heavy Armor. But heavy armor isn't that much better than Studded Leather + 18 Dex. Chain Mail is equal to Studded Leather with 18 Dex, Splint Mail is equal to Studded Leather with 20 Dex. If you're doing a High Elf, it's quite possible to start off with 18 Dex, and therefore the same AC as someone in Chain Mail.
Abjuration Wizard Tank with PHB only isn't bad. You get Shield, and you can heal your Arcane Ward whenever you cast that spell, or whenever you cast Counterspell later on, and that will give you a pretty good amount of healing, because those two spells are two of the most commonly used wizard spells even for wizards that aren't Abjuration Wizards. With your improved Counterspell, you're a pretty good tank against enemy mages, especially if you're a Gnome Abjuration Wizard.
Transmutation Wizard with spells like Alter Self (natural weapon), steel wind strike, and tenser's transformation. Use transmuters stone for CON save proficiency (concentration) or elemental resistances. Stone Shape weapon of choice. Warcaster feat. Maybe Tough feat if you can afford it.
