Hi, I’m playing a level 3 Wizard with the Illusionist subclass. As part of the Illusion Savant feature, I added Phantasmal Force and Mirror Image to my spellbook for free.
When I check my character sheet, both spells show the “Cast” button, which usually indicates they are prepared. However, they don’t appear in my list of prepared spells, and I can’t unprepare or remove them from anywhere.
Is this a bug, or is there an option or mechanic I might have missed?
That would be great, but unfortunately that’s not how it works. Here’s the actual wording of the feature:
“Choose two Wizard spells from the Illusion school, each of which must be no higher than level 2, and add them to your spellbook for free. In addition, whenever you gain access to a new level of spell slots in this class, you can add one Wizard spell from the Illusion school to your spellbook for free. The chosen spell must be of a level for which you have spell slots.”
It says nothing about these spells being automatically prepared – they’re simply added to your spellbook, just like the spells you normally learn when leveling up.
The savant features right now cause the spells to always be prepared. It's a bug. I saw a response in one of their bugs forums about it from the DnDBeyond team a while back but I can't locate it now.

I think that they are always prepared. (It’s a feature, not a bug!)
