I’m thinking of doing a wizard for my next character. I keep playing around with the spell lists. I know all the advice about ritual spells, spell scrolls and only picking some spells from the book.
But for the start of the campaign, how many spells do I pick to put in the book?
Let’s say if I start with a level 3 character, how many leveled spells would I get to put in the book?
At level 1, Wizards get to start with six 1st-level spells in their spellbook. Each level after that, they can add two more spells, which can be any level they have spell slots for.
So, if your Wizard is level 3, they would a total of ten spells in their spellbook: six 1st-level spells gained at level 1, two more 1st-level spells gained at level 2, and two spells gained at level 3 that can be either 1st-level or 2nd-level.
If you're playing under 2024 rules, Wizard subclasses also grant two additional spells at level 3, which can be either 1st or 2nd level, but must be from your subclass's associated school of magic.

How would that 2024 rules point work for a Scribe wizard?

Sorry, I said that in a misleading way — what I was describing is a feature that each of the Wizard subclasses in the 2024 Player's Handbook have, because they are each focused on a specific school of magic. Order of Scribes doesn't have a feature like that because it isn't focused on a specific school, so that doesn't apply.

Ohhh
the way you said it i thought that it was a new thing the 2024 rules added

Well, it is — the 2014 versions of those subclasses did not have that feature. But Order of Scribes doesn't have any school-specific features at all.
