I’d word it carefully, but I’d wish to hit the jackpot the next time I buy a lottery ticket, and I’d be patient and wait for a $500 million jackpot before buying another ticket.
If fantasy was real, I’d wish to be a were-tiger in full control of my shape.
Wish is an I win button - BUT when you cast it on a non standard (spell) effect then you might be soulburnt / marked by creation and prevented from using the spell again.
So here we go.
Wish is missing some specific words in a crucial place so this is what you do.
1)recruit one other caster capable of wish
2) recruit 8 loyal acolytes bringing your group up to 10
3) Wish that 'IN THIS TIME IN THIS PLACE THE PEOPLE PRESENT BE UNSEEN BY CREATIONS WILL AND UNMARKED FOR ACTIONS UNDERTAKEN TO RIP THE COSMOS OPEN' In other words, make you and up to 9 others immune to one specific spell effect - that of wish being banned for non standard use
4) your ally Wishes 'IN THIS PLACE LET THESE PEOPLE PRESENT BE SHIELDED NOW AND FOREVER AGAINST THE RAVAGES OF (X) granting resistance as the wish spell allows to up to 10 people to one source - NOTE - there is no duration and that missing text means duration is not an issue, its permanent (although as DM you should already be going Nope Im not listening to the rules anymore)
5) over the next two weeks make your group resistant to every energy type and weapon type.
6) begin world domination.
7) get a taxi home from your game because no one wants to give you a lift anymore for this blatant genius / unintended combo.

Wish perversion when wishing to be a silver dragon? Oh my yes.
You become a silverdragon - down to the memories your character is no more
You become a silverdragon - egg
You become a personality trapped in a silver dragons mind
You become a model of a silver dragon
You become a painting of a silver dragon
If no time is specified duration is in seconds or permanent (and prevents spell casting due to change in form)
I'd overthink it and psyche myself out if I had access to Wish. I can think of a million things I want, but how many Wishes do I have? Could I word them in such a way as to prevent any kind of magical ****ery?
I think I'd avoid using Wish altogether. Knowing a lot of DM's purposefully twist the words of the 9th level spell so they blow up in your face is really crappy and not at all fun. Well maybe the DM has fun doing that but the player certainly won't.
Seems overly antagonistic if I'd have to make a watertight contract-style wording of the spell every time I want to use it.
Wish always struck me as a last-ditch, heroic-sacrifice sort of spell - yes, it is incredibly powerful, but that sort of power is difficult to control and can harm the wielder even if they accomplish what they set out to do. As such, I probably would use Wish only to stop a monumentally destructive force that we couldn't stop any other way - "I wish this portal to the Abyss was closed forever." "I wish Gruumsh ceased his attack on my plane." I may die or be permanently scarred in the process, but that's a small price to pay to stop the destruction of the world.

"We're the perfect combination of expendable and unkillable!"
Because it would most definitely trigger the side effects of wish which include loss of strength, inability to cast other spells without dying and inability to cast wish.
I would get a shitton of lv. 17 wizards together, have them all cast Wish at the same time, and used their combined power to become as if unto a god. I will succeed where Karsus failed.

I don't know, Sneet, maybe because your argument is "Submit and become our pet"?
I’ve only used it to duplicate lower level spells which is just great. My abjuration Wizard has a demiplane with a couple clones cast with wish so as to not cost anything nor have the timeframe associated with them maturing. Now using instant summon on spellbooks and his magic items makes it easier to reclaim objects in case he ends up dead and has to use a clone. Unless all planes of existence cease to exist, he’s pretty much immortal. If you really want to get around the Wish constraints, use a simulacrum to cast it for you so if it fails it’s not a big deal. AL has specific rules for that as well as how many simulacrum you can have at a time (can have your simulacrum cast simulacrum on you and so on normally) but normal non AL you can have at it.
Sigrun, the 'fluff' might have changed but way back in 2nd when they went through karsus failed spell attempt, he was using a tenth level spell. (the adventure involved an adventuring party borrowing a temporal 'slot' and gaining ingredients for the spell including a piece of an ancient gold dragon and slaying and using the tarrasque as material components. Wishes wont cut it, the goddess of magic says no. (seriously - in the aftermath its why she bans 10th level and higher magic and all attempts to become divine through magic alone)
Dont ever try abusing magic in the forgotten realms. You have elminster, possibly sneakily halaster (not user whether that book is considered canon considering halaster has died a bunch since then), the current designated magus. Even if they dont snap you like a twig the goddess of magic will likely enact her standard punishment - loss of all magical ability forever. Go to Oerth (Greyhawk) instead - the god of magic there is called Boccob the uncaring, his champion at one time was so nutty he planned to make the curtain walls of the city out of the four elements.
MetagamingPigeon - check with your DM on the clone maturation, the cast is instant - the time to maturation is not necessarily. Regarding simulcrum, its an illusion linked to you that when expired breaks down into ice, you can not have more than one - check into your game world mechanics as to why that is. If it requires energy from you, you might be on the hook for cosmic (wish) debts it racks up - safety first - check! And yes a DM will likely impose this as a limitation if they consider it.
I am really confused as to why DMs love to mess with players when they gain access to wish spell. It's rare to see and once it happens DMs simply mess with players wish because of "your choice of words".
I personally never been in that situation but i heard many stories of DMs using the wish spell and twist their wishes.

Correct, you can only have one simulacrum that you cast personally up at one time. The simulacrum you created, presumably of yourself, can then cast simulacrum on you (preferably the next day after you have simulacrum prepared again) and so on.... could have an army of you in a couple days.
I'd ask to become able to cast "True Resurrection" as a cantrip (with 1 action casting time and no materials, of course) and then rez my char's mother. Cuz why use the strongest spell in existence if not for peculiar matters ?
I don't mind. I'd just have to turn into a lich at that point. Or, if it's considered a curse, use a contingency spell that casts True Rez on me if I die. I'd be freed from the curse, while retaining my abilities.

I've been reading this spell recently. Coincidentally I've also been admiring the picture of the ancient silver dragon in the Monster Manual.
What would you Wish for?
Also, can anyone think of any way my Wish could be turned against me?

I don't often DM, but if a player at my table Wished for this, I'm not sure I could stop myself from mucking up the intentions.
"Yeah, sure, Gruumsh is no longer attacking your plane."
Cue diabolical laughter.

Depending on the alignment of my character, that could very well be a "not my plane; not my problem" sort of situation. ;)

That sounds like the kind of OP ability the DM would give you the worst consequences for. Maybe each casting drains your health?
