Hi! So I started a character, a forest gnome, wizard. I'm developing her background and I need a little help. She has a trusty side kick of sorts, her fey, spirit squirrel named Cheeks that she summons with a find familiar spell (my DM approved it). Cheeks is pretty much always with her. I'd like to tie in her background with Cheeks. Perhaps a fey presented herself to my character (named Joli) and they have some sort of bond? Perhaps Joli comes from a gnome clan that regularly associates with certain fey in the forest they live in? Any clever ideas? I'm new to dungeons and dragons, looking for inspiration on a good background!

How about hags? My favorite fey-creatures! Perhaps your character was raised by a hag who taught her the basics of magic.  Hags frequently kidnap children for dark purposes.  Did she intend to turn you to a hag and make you part of her coven?  Or eat you?  Perhaps, she did it out of loneliness.    

Maybe your parents abandoned you in a lonely wood and you were saved by an old crone and raised by a coven.
