My Wizard was given an Animated shield, but I'm not sure he is able to use it. If he has to carry it around like a normal shield and you have to be proficient with shields, then I would say no, but if it is a small symbol of a shield that morphs into a regular size shield on command without having to be proficient with shields, then I guess any class can use it.
