Hi! I couldn't find an existing thread where this seemed to fit, so I hope it's okay that I start a new topic. I heard Adam talk about Source Whitelisting in the most recent (and previous) development live streams, and I wanted to make a request for when you guys look at the implementation of this feature. It's great that we will be able to apply this at the account / campaign / character levels, but I hope there is a separate mechanism to be able to designate whitelisted sources by category like Race / Class / Background / Spells / Magic Items, etc.
For the example that Adam mentioned before - AL Play - we all know that the character build is limited to the PHB plus one additional source (SCAG, Volo's, XGE, etc.). However, this rule does not apply to things such as Backgrounds, and it certainly does not apply to Magic Items that the character can acquire. Even Spells might have a workaround for certain classes; Wizards can find spell books / scrolls that allow them to scribe spells from sources outside of that character's PHB+1. So based on the character, I might want my Race and Class restricted to PHB + XGE, but all other areas of the character sheet able to utilize any of my content. I hope that makes sense and is something that wouldn't add too much complexity to the development of this feature.
D&D Beyond is planning an "AL compliant mode" for the character builder and sheet.
As I understand it, currently it's waiting on Wizards of the Coast to finalize and announce some changes in how AL play works - there was no point in spending time and effort implementing something for the current rules, knowing that change is coming.
