I own a few of the DnD books in hard copy. Is there any way I can register them on beyond to get their content in the interface, or is purchasing the books a second time required?
Anybody from Wizards thinking about this feature? I would be greatly pleased. I always love having hard copies, but I don't want to miss out on this incredible tool.
Short Answer, D&D beyond is owned by Curse, not Wizards of The Coast, and therefore have to license the material from wizards, like anyone else that sells the books.

I suggest you take a look at A Buyer's Guide for D&D Beyond. You do have some options to split the difference, like recreating subclasses, races, monsters, feats, spells, etc as private homebrew, or buying just the things you need for your character.
so..... question.... Wizards of the coast purchased dndbeyond... does this change the issue with registering hard copies now? are there plans to support the purchase of both hard copies AND DND beyond resources?
No, the acquisition doesn't change anything with regards to registering hard copies. No unique identifying codes will have appeared in your books to allow registration of content on D&D Beyond

Alas, no. This thread explains why

Thank you both. It's a somewhat sad situation, but I understand the troubles with copyrights et cetera.
I'll try the adding parts through homebrew or buying piece-meal.
Just so you're aware: if you do buy it piecemeal, whatever money you do spend does reduce the price of the complete book.
So if you spend, for example, $10 on pieces of the Player's Handbook, the book itself will become $10 cheaper.
