I’m having the same issue. I created these characters and now I want to add them to a campaign that I also created. I can’t use the link. They are my characters and it’s my account.
As Matthias mentioned, follow the link to the campaign and you will have the option to create a new character in the campaign, or add an existing character to the campaign.
The only reason I can think of for this not working is if the campaign is full (maximum of 12 players).
I'm having this same problem. There is no "add existing character" option. My only option is "create unassigned character." I made the characters on my account before campaigns were an option in DND beyond. I have been working on them for along time and I don't want to have to recreate them.
I created a campaign and I want to add characters I made long ago, but I too do not have the option to add existing characters to my own campaign file. What’s the beef? We should be able to join one shot campaigns thrown by whomever, not have to recreate our already existing characters all over again.

is the limit of 12 players still in effect and are characters that have been deactivated count towards that limit?
Thanks

Is there a way to move a character I made normally into a campaign I made?
Just use the invite link for the campaign.

1) copy the invitation link
2) log out of DDB
3) open a Web browser
4) paste link into browser and hit enter
5) when DDB loads into web browser -log into the account that has the existing PC or NPC characters you want to add to the campaign
6) you should be directed to a page that lists all of your characters and can select ONE to add to your campaign
done... repeat as needed for additional characters
This worked for me for my own campaign! I didn't even have to log out.
Great question and great answer.
