I don't know what this means to anyone else, but it stinks of quickly orchestrating a 'good guy' 'one-of-us' 'friend' to talk to us peons while he's actually just as disconnected from all of this as the C-suite crew.
You just created this account less than an hour ago. See, here's the problem. We just don't trust you guys anymore. This kind of stuff is not helping restore trust.
He's real. Expect videos about his story on YT shortly.
Definitely. I did not mean to imply that Mr. Brink isn't a real person who works for WotC. Just that he is NOT a real community member or someone who we should trust as being anything other than a hastily chosen scapegoat for our anger.
My point is: Read that byline as though it still says 'D&D BEYOND STAFF' like the first. Putting a 'real' name to it is just manipulation.
Isn't funny, they could have kept the OGL, created a great integrated VTT, put in an AI assistant for the DM's (not replacing them but aiding them), and gained a huge number of subs with new players with the movie coming out. Hell even I would pay a $10-15 sub for a toolset like that integrated with DND beyonds. But greed and C-Suite hackjobs with no clue had to roll on in and do the big dick ego thing and here we are.
And now they are throwing the new guys to the wolves while hiding back at Hasbro, repeating the same "draft" lie over and over again, claiming to be transparent while being thicker than pea soup. Fire the CEO and people in charge, spin off Wizards into it's own company, and put people with actual long term business sense in charge, and not just folks who want to give off "I got a big d@ck and I'll prove it with my 'great' get rich quick high risk ideas!". Seriously what is up with these really shitty CEO's these days, like they get into markets/trades they know nothing about and then are pikachu faced when they make things crash and burn, blaming everyone but themselves.
He's real, but the fact that he only made his account less than 20 minutes before the blog post went live goes to show that clearly executives don't read or listen to our feedback or even use their own products and contents. That should easily explain why WotC let this shit fester and are making the decisions they are.
Did no one bother to think we would ask who this was and check to see if he had a long standing account. They continue to underestimate this community. It is filled with some of the most intelligent creative caring people one could find. Some of us have been involved with this hobby and contributing to it since the beginning. Its these contributions that built their success. If they need a survey to understand this community wants I think all is lost. ORC is the future.
He has literally zero experience prior to WotC in the TTRPG space and almost his entire career has been dedicated to developing video games that paywall and micro transaction every little thing and running projects into the ground as a result of corporate greed. That should give you a bit of an idea what WotC's real current strategy is right now - they literally think D&D is a video game and can monetise and paywall everything to success.

Understood and thanks!
You can see how after things have been unfolding lately has given everyone +1 paranoia :)
