I'm sorry if I missed this, but while making a Wizard, I noticed that it doesn't tell you how many spells you should have in your spellbook, base level. I get that wizards can add spells in, but if I'm making a basic wizard of a higher level (I didn't really test it for a first level wizard, or leveling a first level wizard), it doesn't tell me anything. I found myself having to crack a book open to figure it out, which isn't helpful if I've brought my laptop someplace and didn't bring the books (which I often do).

It is! Thank you, I did not think to go there, but it's not in the character sheet, so I don't need to crack the book out of its dusty tomb, but I do have to leave the character builder to do it... which still halts character making while I rummage. I mean, which is fine, but everything else is so easy to use.
It is in the character builder. When you select the class, the Confirm Add Class popup lists the starting features, including a section for spellcasting. You do need to click ‘Show more’ to expand the full text, but if you do this it tells you all the base info about spellcasting, including how many spells are in your spellbook at level one. This same info also shows in the class page of the builder once selected, and you can expand it there and read it as well. I’ve had to use this a lot to go back and check ‘what’s my spellcasting ability again?’ before setting my stats on the next screen.

It's here under the class description:
