So I just bought the Player's Handbook, because I wanted to share it with my campaign.
But just discovered - I can't because I am not subscribed to D&D Beyond - which makes the purchase I made today, totally useless.

you don't have to be the person purchasing a Master Tier subscription - anyone in the campaign can do so and enable content sharing for everyone in the campaign!
If you wish to discuss refunds, you will need to contact the support team.

Not entirely. It is up to you and your players, but the subscription can be made by one the players and he or she can enable the sharing.
In any case, you can contact support, but be aware that on the Marketplace, the disclaimer says "Digital items are not returnable or refundable."
