This is something I've been toying with in my head and discussing with members at my table, but the spell page on my beyond character sheet is too cluttered sometimes. While the beyond team has done a good job of having filters available, so for they only filter out by spell lvl, ritual, or concentration.
These are great, but even with those my spell page is full of spell, why you ask, because upcasting that's why. At first it was useful to knows what spells upcast and to know real quick what the new amount if dice is, it gotten to be too much. As my character levels and gains access to more spells and higher spell slots, all the spells that upcast start to pile up.
This got worse once I multiclassed into another full caster, giving me a bunch of 1st lvl spells, half of which upcast. By the time I scroll down to my highest spell slot I can't find the spells for that lvl anymore since they are swamped by all my upcastable spell.
There really should be an option to toggle on an off up casting, since it still can be useful, its just the clutter can get to be a hassle when I'm looking for a specific spell.
Staff have mentioned that they plan to add a toggle for whether upcasts are displayed, as playing a high level spellcaster can get kinda crazy looking through that spell list!
The upcasting feature is fantastic... when you want to upcast. The rest of the time it's just a distracting mess, especially since the bright blue colour makes the upcasts stand out more than the base level spells. Not sure a toggle is the best solution, though, as you would be moving the mouse to the toggle and then it would explode the list and you'd have to scroll like crazy. Maybe the upcasts only get displayed in the level lists rather than the All list? So you click on 9th-level spells, and all the spells that can be cast in a 9th-level slot are displayed, while the 'All' option only displays base level casts for each spell level.
I was likely simplifying things when I said a toggle - like the rest of the D&D Beyond, the team will look at potential use scenarios and develop a flexible solution.
